This is what I think it means: It would have been better to do a HM well rested, prepared and in a period of the year when the mileage training is the best.
But I haven’t seen posters that deny this obvious observation -what guys like me point out is that Jakob was nearly 6 min behind the WR, and would possibly been as much as 4.5 min behind if he had had a more conservative opening. -This is IMO a gap that is extremely difficult to explain away as only lack of preparation, wrong time of the year, or thinning of the training throughout the track season. More so because Jakob has a history of lack of fast long races, even being well prepared, and even when those have been done in favourable parts of the year…
I keep on hammering this dead horse not to prove that Jakob has a lack of talent in the distance events, or that he is worse the longer the distance. -That may very well be the case, but if so it will eventually reveal itself without me pointing it out.
My agenda is if Jakob isn’t as bad as he looks, to me, in the 10k and HM and even the 5000m, then it’s crucial that he admit his bad (or for the 5000m restricted, since he hasn’t been really tested by competitors in peak shape) distance performances, and gets his priorities right when it comes to what he runs and then, along with a change in or supplement of the training…
My hopes are that Jakob gets rid of the idea that his over all training is better suited for the longer distances, and does the necessary changes before he gets a long losing reputation in the distance events. And it would also be cool if he a little humble admitted to the need of those changes!
