Philly's latest video was a completely disingenuous attempt to pretend she has the same worries as a traditional pro who’s injured. She’s acting as though she’s the spokesperson for professional runners.
Historically, Phily has repeatedly said she earns the majority of her income from YouTube activities and coaching. Yet, for the sake of the video, she flipped the narrative to imply she makes most of her money from a standard pro running contract.
Yes, no one wants to be injured, and it sucks. However, Phily, despite being injured and not having run an elite time for 18 months, has signed what we can assume is the most lucrative deal of her career. Ironically, her contract may well now be her biggest source of income - however, she's stated historically this is not the case! Furthermore, her YouTube engagement remains high. It’s almost as if she’s so desperate to identify as a pro that she’s stealing their the worries and stress a traditional pro would have nearing the end of their contract.
Yeah, and the bit about oh potentially I could have earned eye watering sums at Chicago that would have dwarfed all my other income. If you won a major I'm sure you would, and I think that's what she's saying. I don't think that she's really earning big money coming 10-15th at a marathon running a high 2:2X.
Yep, very disingenuous. Its like a non league football player claiming their earning potential is massive because they could technically win the FA cup, whilst not untrue the likelihood of that happening is so small that its not even worth them thinking about.
I'll be there. Cole will be fuming that he had to pay to enter. I didn't.
Same I'll be there. He is going to win again isn't he.. Long live KingCole
he stated hes racing Bath next weekend and this isnt a big race - most would use this as a long-run session. no doubt he will be going balls deep ploughing himself into the ground for the sake of the £100 top prize
The problem with people like Phily and Allie O is: They always claim that they are pro runners! No, they are influencer and its nothing wrong with it. But both always uses the "pro card" for their content and oh dear, if sb is telling them they are more like influencers its the end of the world.
For them its all about the status of being a real pro and with that the lies are comming. Running a national championship race doesnt mean you are atomaticly a pro ;). A lot of amateurs/semi pros are competing there. But its all about the image.

I gotta say that I thought Phily's video was relatively transparent compared to most of the YouTubers who only mention their Youtube views revenue. At least she acknowledged that a big chunk of the revenue is coming from "brand partnerships".
But she put her ON (and now Lululemon) sponsorship in the running revenue slice which is a bit disingenuous as these brands are sponsoring her because she's a Youtube, not necessarily because of her running abilities. I bet that if you split that sponsorship revenue fairly between the running and social media slices it'd change the picture quite a bit.
Just watched Truett Hanes most recent video. Around 5:30 in he starts running mile repeats. He seemingly stops almost 20-30m short… maybe this is why he doesn’t film many workouts

I think Allie O's situation is a little different. Her time with the Beasts means that at one point she was a true professional runner. While I think she is primarily content creation now, I imagine that it's much harder to let go of the pro title. Phily on the other hand never was really in that pro category, she's run some good times, the 2:25 is impressive, but her revenue is and always has been primarily content

Yeah, both he and Floberg have posted workouts where they are using watch splits on the track recently. We aren't exactly dealing with the best and brightest here.

She's neither a pro runner, nor a runfluencer really. She's a what-i-eat-in-a-day-fluencer. So much so that at one point she made a video with this gem of a title:
A very strange workout indeed, 3 miles at 1:10 HM pace, then 4 x 1 mile at around 15k pace. This is a sub LT2 workout. Should be relatively hard but not " This was HARD" as Floberg said. SirPoc would knock 3 of these out a week. He also needed a 4 minute rest before the last mile rep - This is a man who is as fit as he's ever been?
Floberg workouts always read like his coach got woken up the morning after a bender and just made up any old sh*t so he could go back to bed. Not sure he's any better off than the Runna crowd at this point.

She’s a melt. She’s a lot better off than people who are struggling to make ends meet as a lesser known pro- and it’s from her influencer bag certainly not her running.
Watched some of The Woods stuff today and was actually very palatable. Lot of training footage which is nice and no OTT trying to hard influencer jazz. Haven’t followed Adam’s career, assume since he tried for the pro angle after college he thinks better times are there, what’s held him back? Injuries/ too low mileage etc. Seems to live the lifestyle, great access to facilities and team, but just not on pro level with the times in the half and marathon for sure, is it just a low ceiling?
I don’t know but he looks in sensational shape in his Tokyo marathon pics. The arms on him are making me wet and I’m a man!! I feel like he could rewrite the record book for Hyrox if he wanted to
