Is there actually any way this is true and if not surely he needs to be seeing a sports psychologist to try and sort it out, i just fail to believe that physically you can lose that much speed/fitness from 1 week out.
I might be completely wrong as I'v never been in the position of a elite/sub elite but as a club runner it would take a few weeks out to dent fitness to this level for me.
I read once that Eliud Kipchoge would run the day after a marathon to ensure he didn't have any niggles that required surgery, and then totally rest for about a month. He seemed to not lose any fitness in the long term.
RTJ seems to have some psychological issues which I'm sure lead to his high mileage and underperformance. His gimmick is probably going to cost him faster times.
