And thank to the information and communication revolutions it has become all too easy and possible to do so on an never before seen scale, so much so that entire nations can be controlled or destroyed. Technology has progressed faster than society has been able to adapt, and we're suffering the consequences.
The status-quo is not sustainable. And in truth I'm not sure what can realistically be done. Democracy requires a well educated populous to make informed decisions for the greater good. At this rate the 21st century is going to render the concept obsolete.

It is the internet ability to hack society that has me worried. I don't think the USA is safe from the Orwellian dystopia being created in China. In fact, we're already part of the way their. Our AI technology is even better then theirs, the FBI used similar facial recognition software to that used in Xinjiang to identify vandals during the George Floyd protest, and companies have been approaching local police to integrate such AI technology into body cams. The internet and social media penetrates just as deep into our society. The NSA and other intelligence apparatuses already engage in mass surveillance of the populous. The only thing we're missing is the centralization of all of these pieces and a concentrated effort to put in place the necessary infrastructure to complete the creation of a this orwellian state, and my gut tells me that secretly they are working on just that.
In truth, the 21st century, especially the automation revolution, excites and scares me. The potential of technology seems limiteless, but on the other hand I don't see how liberal ideals are going to triumph.
As far as US politics go, I'm just looking forward to this clown finally being out of office and a return to just not having to deal with an insane president for at least 4 years. But looking further into the future, I'm not so optimistic about societies future.
Even then, Trump has made it clear that an authoritarian can succeed in the US, and regardless of what side of the political spectrum they fall on , it is clear we are not ready for when that Authoritrian actually has some brain cells and isn't a senile old man.

Well, nationalism is what Trumpers jumped on, and that's a real thing that our world is currently dealing with, but Trump himself is an authoritarian. He hasn't been successful beyond this one term, but he was already talking of being in office for 8 more years, 12 more years, for life. He absolutely was using the authoritarian playbook.

Unfortunately this is true. We have a problem here in the US, because really no more than 33% of our citizenry needs to be going to college. We need to make sure that trade schools and technical schools are funded and that their attendees are respected. We also will always have a need for people in the service industry, and they need to be respected also.

Agree, except I would amend this to "no more than 33% of our citizenry needs to be going to four-year college." Many community colleges provide an affordable opportunity to learn exactly the trades and technical skills that you advocate.
This was actually one of the points of the book "The Bell Curve" from ~25 years ago: that all work contributes to the community and that it should be valued by everyone. I, for one, occasionally and randomly thank people who are doing work well, particularly (though not only) lower-status work. (This impulse may stem from the years that I worked in such jobs.) Particularly nowadays, when customer-facing service people are literally putting their health on the line to do their jobs, I think they deserve gratitude and respect.
