In the run up to the 2020 election Trump was relatively subdued on immigration and borders. I think that rhetoric worked against the Republicans in the 2018 midterm. Also the pandemic and resultant economic impact were foremost in everybody's mind.
Many Blacks and Latinos have jobs that cannot be done remotely. They didn't like "lockdowns" and wanted the reopening regardless of health risk.
Also, boys are boys regardless of race. Trump's fake-machismo appeals to some Black and Latino men.
