Not sure I agree with this.
RtJ has a lot more charisma than the majority of YouTubers. Even someone like Hugo Fry has personality (even if a slightly annoying one). I can think of a few Brits with charisma - crown my run, MARM. But struggling to think of any obvious Americans, Canadians or Australians.
The Australian ones are particularly monotone and charmless
Theres a reason why some of the most charismatic front men and women in music are British. Miles ahead of other countries in terms of charisma you could argue. Jagger, Freddie, Styles, LenMc, Bowie etc etc etc . Other than USA the rest of the world need to up their game
As an American, I would rather watch jogoncrago than most US shoetubers easily... but I would say overall the Brits are the best runtubers.
Alright. I've been having a day. [But can you guys tell me this post by Kofuzi...which was originally on Threads]... isn't a bit kinda like creating more division between all runners? Is he joking here?
I think people had pointed out Des Linden had just won Disney (the Hansons and Brooks have/had a very long history with that race actually....it was on our Brooks bonus contract when we raced it).
Granted I consider myself more of a "influencer-coach-sponsored hobby jogger" nowadays (and I never was really a salary based top "pro road marathoner" for Brooks), but in my limited experience pro-sponsored road runners are generally really fighting at the competitive margins when they compete. They seek out big prize money and appearance fees and that usually only comes from big competitive races where place greatly matters and the competition is high. It's a "high pressure" environment and they've dedicated their lives and careers to performing near their full potential on razor thin margins. They've earned their spot "to start at the Front of the line."
Now say that pro runner wants a "fun run" or "tune-up race" like Disney or Honolulu (or a local 5km for charity)? Let them have it! We're all people and runners here. Just because Mike wants to place better and try to win (or considers a race for himself to be a "destination" or "vacation" event from his perspective) doesn't mean it's not going to be competitive sometimes. Too bad!
And I think the real irony is as an "influencer runner-content creator" Mike himself as undoubtable benefiting from certain "elite perks" (that he mentions) like special entry to marathon majors and a "special warm-up area" and "nice starting line position" for his illegal selfie stick. We also don't care that we have "our names on our bibs instead of a number" smh....
Not out of line at all. That's a moronic take. I'd be chuffed if a Boston or any major winner, male or female turned up to race.
They are perfectly entitled to. I do remember after COVID going to a race I'd probably look to podium on . We got to the start and there was the male national marathon winner a couple of Olympians and some top national runners. Absolutely delighted to see those names at a small race.. ...and the race were delighted they were there .
I for one wish that these youtubers stop showing up at races because they make it impossible for us normal people with a 9-5 to get the most likes on Instagram and Strava.
Good point, Linkletter is boring af. Keely, femke and siffan are the best female personalities in track at the moment (though only Keely has a YouTube) and males have interesting personalities in Jacob, Kerr is a d1ckhead but can’t say he’d boring, nuguse is great though but American or Canadian run youtubers with charm or personalities is a struggle.

Keely? Are you serious?
I find her a tad childish personally but from a marketable sports personality/charm she has appeal, she’s been a commentator for events, she doesn’t have a voice that sounds like a sleep tape audio.
I would rather they attempt it than the games not happen, the council are using a lot of the existing infrastructure from last time, shame about some of the events being cut for sure though

Not out of line at all; if anything you're too kind.
Kofuzi is such a clown. He gets mad when people criticize him and his friends like Robbe & Thomas from Believe in the Run, Track Club Babe, etc, for running on influencer bibs at New York, London, Boston, Berlin, etc. Kofuzi himself ran on an influencer bib in Tokyo (Asics) and London, Sydney and I think Berlin too (Sportstours, which absolutely paid him to make the videos by providing the bib and free travel ever if he protests that no one paid him to make the video in the video and buries the sponsorship in "sports tours paid for some travel," in the bottom of his video description).
So in that context his statement is even worse. He doesn't want Des Linden to show up and run around Disneyworld because that's an experience that he thinks should he walled off to the rarified air of those who can get influencer bibs at major marathons, not the mere masses who just run their half marathons in tutus at Disneyworld.
Since I know he reads this thread, come on bro, look in the mirror. You protest your progressive and inclusive values constantly on Strava, but show yourself to be elitist constantly on Threads. If you really wanted to be as inclusive as you claim to be, maybe you would start showing up at your local 5k or gasp the Disneyworld half marathon. But those races are probably beneath you in your mind, so it'll never happen.
People love Des Linden so much because she's pretty blue collar and regular. Nothing would be beneath Des; she seems like she would have a good time racing a park run with 10 people. She ran the New York City marathon in 4+ hours last year on a bib she paid for. I am not sure but I think she's doing the same at Boston next month, where she, a former champion of that race, plans to start with the masses and pace her husband to a sub 2:37 finish. Think about that, a former Boston Marathon Champion, paying to race; while some influencer never was is trying to scheme his way into the race for free. People love Des because she actively avoids special treatment; people can't stand influencers as a whole because they expect special treatment.
Brooks is sponsoring Des in retirement because they know that sells shoes. Her showing up at Disneyworld and winning the half got more views than whatever lame shoe review Kofuzi just put out about the Brooks Ghost 1,000 or whatever number it's on. I'm guessing a lot of those people in tutus bought Brooks when they got home because it was so cool to be in a race with Des.
This post was edited 5 minutes after it was posted.
On RTJ’s live stream he was asked about what would be the bigger celebration between him going 2:09 and Arsenal winning the quad. I was surprised it wasn’t edited out of the stream, but in a moment of unfiltered honesty, he said “they are equally long shots”. Then he starts spluttering trying to correct himself. So all this self promotion goes against what he thinks when it’s unfiltered. 28:45 on the stream.
No, me neither - it sent me to sleep less than 2 minutes in.
Highly recommended for insomniacs though.
This applies to any British youtuber for me. I don't how every single Brit was born without any charisma. It's a genetic mutation.
Possibly something to do with their depressing food.
dont tar us all with that brush...
Bester is south african
Philly is a plastic american
and FENTONNNNNNN is swedish
unfortunately, we have to take the stick with Manthorpe, his desperation to be relevant is sickening, i do not know of a single brand/podcast which he hasnt begged to be on/free kit. we just live in the hope that he doesnt improve much further

I dont know if its a joke but Fenton is not swedish, he lived there a couple of years.
Couldn’t find a flat bit of land to save my life in this city, google said this park was a ‘gently incline’ but it was not. It was a green run ⛷️ Found a house to run around but sacked it after 4 reps (was supposed to be 8) S...
A Goddard all time classic - Hes flown across Europe to a lovely sunny seaside city and instead of enjoying the beautiful seaside running paths, in true London Run Club W*nker style he found a park and ran around a 200m loop around a building to try an avoid any elevation. You literally couldn't make it up
I truly do question why people like this even run, they clearly don't actually enjoy going out for a run, they aren't running fast times or competing at anything. Surely you just find something you actually enjoy and move on with your life?

I think he's just found a nich that his posh friends do and he's trying to monitize it. Always amazes me how someone like this spends so much time around runners and thinks it's necessary to hunt out a "flat spot" for 45 mins total run as part of am marathon build up -- like he will need speed to out kick people.

I like Alfie Manthorpe. You would all criticise if he was being over the top standard YouTube persona. He's just a normal northern lad who's very good at running
I don't think it's just posh Londoners doing stuff like this; trips based entirely around training, hyper focussing on everything being perfect whilst the global view of their training is really poor, chasing small %ers whilst running abjectly average times.
There's essentially an entire new run club near me full of these people. Trying to have perfection for an interval session (the ones not funded by mum and dad will take a day off work for a "key session" ) whilst they have to run at 5am the rest of the week and compromise the rest of their training. Or if things aren't perfect - wind existing for example - their heads absolutely go and a meltdown on Strava and IG happens followed by some fake introspection.

I'm all for bashing this prat's podcast and lack of meaningful discussion or knowledge of the sport, but finding a flat park to do your session is hardly an offence? Would it be more acceptable if he had found a track?
The day before he went for an easy one along the coast to enjoy the seaside running paths. I'd do exactly the same

Its what the post above yours explains perfectly, hyper fixation about having to have a perfect track session done with 0m elevation gain. Yet hes running average (at best) times and has an awful training program meaning that hes not really going to be improving much anyway. (also running a 200m loop like that will have so much GPS drift he was probably only doing 750m reps)
I understand a decent runner who is really serious about their training doing something like this. Although personally I would just do my reps along some of the beautiful running trails and seaside walkways and just account the fact that maybe there's a few small hills to deal with.
But the idea that someone who by all accounts isn't running quick times and isn't anywhere near pushing the sort of milage needed to improve said times NEEDS to have this exactly precise perfect session is just laughable. And then just to top it off he only does half the reps anyway.
