isn't a Trump PAC also raising a lot of money for this from the public? And I thought i heard that he could use those funds to help pay down his campaign debt.
sure. But Trump would have done that had he won, lost, tied, whatever. The m@ga email list is one of the most valuable items on the planet. It will be used. Oh, it will be used.
I guarantee that the trump klan is straight up diverting donations right into their bank accounts.

Anyone else here had political fights within family over the last 4 years? I have always restrained myself around family members when they've brought up politics to try to preserve the peace, but there were several cases where it was too agonizing and I had to push back hard. A few of them really went deep into trumpland and haven't come out, including my old man unfortunately. With some thankfully there is still discourse, but it is extremely tiring. On election week they all went radio silent in the family chat, but only when those swing states started to turn. I stayed quiet until Thursday when a few started to spew the fake fraud allegations.. I ripped them all for days after and again on Saturday the chat went completely silent. I wish they never had brought up politics, but what can I do, I have a backbone and integrity.
With respect to my old man, I think I figured it out eventually. He was the type of guy who always noticed disadvantaged people and stuck his neck out for them. He wanted fair treatment around him, and expected people to keep their word and take ownership for mistakes. That's what he taught me growing. He was never really into politics most of his life. Then there was a change in 2016/7. He had experienced some huge setbacks financially and personally and suddenly started consuming pro-trump content. I am sure he got caught up in it all due to his vulnerability and emotional weakness at the time... exactly how you hear about someone in a bad state getting swept up by a cult or vice. It is so much easier to lean on scapegoats than to take a cold hard look at yourself in the mirror and self assess. Trumpism is a plague.

My side of the family are all Democrats. My wife is a Democrat, but her parents are Republicans, and unfortunately did vote for Trump both times. Neither of them are racist, but this election cycle HAS shown me that they are stupid. My father-in-law was even on the hydroxychloroquine train for a while. My wife would prefer to call them "ignorant", but she's allowed to be wrong. We get along well with them, and we don't talk politics for the most part. My sister-in-law (wife's brother's wife) is a flat out racist though. She knows to keep her yap closed when I am around as I once gave her the evil eye when she said racist things about Muslims, but I will let her have it if I hear any racist crap from her in person again (she spews some online, and I just ignore it out of family harmony).

Found this on a website called the Daily Beast:
"But with his defeat by President-elect Joe Biden, the yet-unnamed PAC will provide a vehicle for Trump to stay relevant in national politics and even mount another presidential run in 2024. The PAC could also be used to steer donor money to Trump properties in lieu of the campaign committee that the president has used to funnel money to his businesses since 2015. Leadership PACs are notorious for their use by ex-officeholders to pay expenses that are only superficially political in nature, and have been criticized as “slush funds” for those officials’ personal expenses."
Sounds like the author really belongs to the party of unity and acceptance...

I think everyone in my family and my wife's family despises Trump.
Everyone in my family despises the guy but he has been a great president. No wars, great economy despite Chinese Coronavirus, fantastic stock market . He has been geat for the country. What has ruined the country are Libs trying to lynch him every step of the way.

Fair enough. Although more work than I am really interested in investing here. But ok, you asked repectfully, so here goes. Here is my transcription of his answer to the first question:
Pompeo: “There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration.” – (said while laughing). Laughing – hint – it’s a joke to those who are not in a state of hysteria.
Now comes his real response: “We’re ready. The world is watching what’s taking place. We’re going to count all the votes. When the process is complete, there’ll be electors selected. (laughs). There’s a process. The Constitution lays it out pretty clearly. The world should have every confidence that the transition necessary to make sure that the State Department is functional today, successful today, and successful with the President who’s in office on January 20, a minute after noon, will also be successful.”
Translation - Let the process play out to determine who will be in office on Jan 20 at 12:01 pm (I, Pompeo, am not weighing in on how that will play out or who will be POTUS when all is said and done). No matter how that process plays out, the necessary steps will be taken to ensure that the State Department will be fully functional today and on Jan 20 at 12:01.
Yeah, it's not funny though, and it's not hysteria to be concerned that the Secretary of State would say such a thing. At best, it's bad humor, but more likely, it is (as someone already mentioned) a dog whistle to Trump supporters. It enables Trump and keeps him thinking that people high up in the government are behind his delusional stance on this. Extremely dangerous stuff. Gives the impression that the US isn't operating with a full deck, and some bad actor country MIGHT try to take advantage of that. We are a country in flux, and Trump is endangering us, our troops, and our allies with this kind of behavior.
History will expose your great president as our Worst President ever. Most corrupt, also.

.
We could all use a little laughter, but who exactly is sitting there laughing along with him? Both sides are fired up and looking for a reason to continue the useless bickering and pointless back and forth. Everything he said AFTER his little joke was fine. But, his timing, was poor at best.
Agreed that his timing was poor. And he should have understood his audience better.
My only point was that it was no big deal - nothing to justify such hysterics.
I’m amazed that nobody else is at least a bit concerned about this. To me this possibility represents the asymmetric nature of risk. A literal coup is unlikely but the 1/50 chance it occurs is so devastating it is worth getting worked up about and beginning to strategize against.

All Rs love it when the libs get scared. It's their champers. REmember how excited and happy rigged got when a good poll came out for spanky?
Totally agree. Trump and the Trumpettes are all a-holes and traitors. All the more reason to avoid getting hysterical about things that do not warrant it (and thereby avoid feeding into the GOP propaganda machine).
Completely disagree real obvi. Sorry. Words and timing matter at his level.

You are wrong. And your hysteria helps the GOP.
You are tossing around the word hysteria a lot. What does that mean exactly? Do you mean not approving of his comments? I’m not exactly screaming into a pillow in my bedroom right now.

I don't think that "nobody else is ... concerned" about the possibility that Trump could steal the election. Myself, I put the odds at MUCH greater than 1/50. And yes, the Dems should certainly be strategizing against it. Indeed, I would be shocked if they were only just "beginning to strategize against" it.
But please avoid the hysteria where it is not appropriate. Doesn't help.
Also.. what am I wrong about? I’m wrong that this is an unacceptable way for pompeo to conduct himself?

Any notion that Pompeo's remark was anything but a bad joke is hysteria.
