Given their demographic disadvantage, I think the GOP has been more effective. I don't think their ways will bode well for them in the long run, but they have done pretty well in elections.

In the short term, Rs had a better ground operation. Ds took more caution because of the virus. In the medium term, they did better with community outreach programs in some areas (most notably South Florida among Cuban and Venezuelans.) But Ds did well in places like Arizona and Georgia.

Because Dems cannot attack labor rights and environmental protection. Rs think it's "pro-business" when workers and environment are assaulted. They think Trump is great for the economy when he calls for "reopening" regardless of the public health risk. Dems cannot take "corporate profit at any cost" approach.

So even when the unemployment rate is lower, the GDP growth is higher, or even the stock market is higher, Dems cannot get credit for that.

I don't know about your family, but 90% of people are not data oriented. So pointing to hard. cold data does nothing for them. Those numbers must be doctored anyway.

No idea if smorbun is gay. But he is definitely into at least one Pole - in a narcissistic kind of way.

1) I was born in Ohio, and my wife and her family and my family are all here. I do not like the weather here, but Ohio is an ok place to raise kids and build wealth, depending on where you live in Ohio.

2) Neither my wife nor I like winter, so we do not plan to retire here in Ohio.

3) When we pick a place to retire to, the plan is that that will be the house the rest of our lives. We are both in our 50s. Not fearing falling down stairs now or ever, but there just is no need for an 80+-year-old person to have to go up and down stairs.

4) You've got me all wrong, brother. I've lived in 5 different states, and I've traveled the world over. Adventure is my middle name. Just telling you things that COULD change our plans. My plans could change if both my children move to [insert state name here] and start families there. You just never know. I just know that I will not plan to retire in Ohio. I do not "worry" about anything. I make plans to do certain things but realize those plans may change. And, Oh, I'm retiring. I'm financially able to do it right now, but I am at a minimum going to see my largest client project through for another year when it will end. When that is over, I do not plan to take on another project with that client, and my weekly hours will then be down to about 10. I may continue to work at that level for a couple more years after that, but I will retire before age 60. If I had to guess, age 57 seems about right.

5) Regarding political climate, it's not THE factor, but it is A factor. I don't need some yahoos with Trump flags (or the evil of the day) on all sides of me. I do not PLAN to be surrounded by ignorant people.

I guess we won't be having Phase II of the China deal.

Phase I wasn't going so great anyway.

China wasn't buying as much as they said they would.

Trump's tariffs hurt Americans.

Biden will work with allies for future deals with China.

Trump never understood the complexity and benefits of multi lateral deals.

About Bill Barr, this is what Lawrence O'Donnell said last night. He is sending two different messages to two different audiences.

He wrote that the DOJ could conduct investigations “if there are clear and apparently-credible allegations of irregularities that, if true, could potentially impact the outcome of a federal election in an individual State”. The fact is that "clear and apparently-credible allegations" are few and far between, and those could not potentially impact the outcome of a federal election. Barr knows it, and the career people at DOJ know it. So they won't investigate anything.

However, it creates an appearance to the other audience (Trump) that he is trying to do about the irregularities. And Trump does not understand the nuances of Barr memo.

It's the absolute lowest bar for climate change you could possibly imagine and mostly involves the US subsidizing everyone else's dogsh!t promises to meet their status quo. The US should be a world leader in this area for sure, but why we're willing to settle for this laughing stock of a framework is embarrassing

I'm with agip on that one. It's the best we've got right now and it's a start. And you can't influence how Paris is actually implemented if you aren't in the game.

I'm focusing on boasting in general. When you look at the state of the country from beginning of Obama's 1st term to the end of his 2nd there was much to take credit for, but he didn't do that. Instead, trump took credit for everything he worked hard for while destroying it all. I understand Obama is a modest person but most of the population is made up of simpletons who are not educating themselves about anything. They barely read and when they do it's not about politics. Why not use some simple repetitive lines and boast about everything good that happens under your watch? Sounds like a pretty easy strategy that pays off. Dems are pretty bad at the political game.

Markets go up after an election regardless of who is elected. The stability and predictability has to do with just KNOWING who the president is. It has nothing to do with the fact that Biden was elected. Trump would have gotten a similar bump if he had been elected. The markets just don't like uncertainty.
