it's a complicated question that we don't know the answer to yet, obvi.

Which direction will Trumpism go? Regular anti-elite populism that can appeal to many in different areas? If it is this, then others can carry it.

or will it be an ethnocentrist party that is really just interested in elevating white people and ending immigration? That will be a harder sell.

Or is it just a personality cult around DJT that prevents the post-Trump R party from co-opting it?

We won't know for a couple years.

That is so bizarre, but I guess on par with Giuliani's slow descent into madness. Among the people I'm most happy to see go are 1) Stephen Miller and 2) Giuliani.

So, perusing twitter shows that Trump wanted to call a press conference at the Four Seasons in Philly. Eventually it came out that it was the Four Seasons Landscaping Company. Next to a crematorium and an adult bookstore. I thought it was a joke, but no, Giuliani and company were speaking at the landscaping company.

The only thing I can think of is that they wanted it at the Four Seasons hotel, announced it before booking, then couldn't book and tried to save face.

This is so bad I'm hoping I'm actually hoping I'm wrong, that the incompetence in the administration isn't this bad. I'll even accept the most questionable circumstantial evidence that Trump and this minor landscaper are close friends and Trump wanted to do him a favor.

I'm pretty sure Trump will eventually go away but I suspect there's a much greater likelihood in the future of a successful illiberal (in the sense of not supporting democratic values, not "conservative") charismatic candidate. Not guaranteed by any means but aspiring politicians now see what you can get away with.

Donald Trump is a unique President and there will not be another one like him for 100+ years if ever. It would be near impossible to duplicate his appeal to ANY mass group.

1) Be very wealthy or at least have the appearance of it.

2) Be a celebrity with a history of irreverent behavior that is applauded.

3) Have such narcissism that the need to do rallies is seen as him/her working hard when in fact it is just to feed an insatiable ego.

4) Have absolutely ZERO interest in what any adviser says to him/her.

5) Be able to get even close to what Trump got away with.

I will say this again for emphasis...Trumpism is DONE as soon as Biden occupies the White House. Opposition to Biden will be something else, but it will not be Trumpism.

Trumpism is a cult, and it involves worshipping Donald Trump. No Donald Trump to worship when he is no longer in power (they will NOT worship him when he is no longer in power, especially not after losing the election like a loser).

They COULD perhaps worship him if he had a successful radio or television show, but he will not. He may attempt, and he might have some limited success initially, but it will fail. Only so much advertising that can be sold to gun stores. Hosting a show isn't one of Trump's strengths anyway. He will fail big time at that.

Historically, populism doesn't last...usually not to the next election cycle, as we have seen here. Trumpism is dead when Biden occupies the White House. Something else might come about, but Trumpism will be dead.

You're right in one regard - there probably won't be anyone like Trump with regards to ridiculousness. He's truly amazing in that regard, almost unparalleled. But there are plenty of illiberal people running supposed democracies throughout the world (Orban and Bolsonaro, for example). And even the ridiculousness factor isn't completely farfetched - Duterte in the Philippines is just as silly as Trump. People are pretty much the same no matter where you go and a lot of people want a (supposed) "tough guy" "boss" to "talk straight" and "cut through the bull$hit" or whatever.

The United States is NOT The Philippines though. Like I have said, something else may raise its ugly head, but Trumpism is dead once Biden occupies the White House. This is the ONLY point I am making with these recent posts, and I am 100% correct. Just like the Tea Party isn't really a thing anymore. Trumpism will fall even faster and harder.

Hmm...I would say that's CLOSE. Giuliani really has no power though. I agree he's a villain, but he has no power. I would put Kushner and Ivanka above him on the villain scale, and then even the idiot brothers Don Jr. and Eric simply because they are family.

Love how the rest of the world is just ignoring Trump's protestations, or that he hasn't conceded.

Biden got congratulated by most of the world's leaders, and many already starting to work with his transition team and setting up visits.

Some have even stated relief.

Giuliani is a little unnerving to me. I used to live in NYC and still think he was a great mayor for the city with his crime policies and how he handled 9/11. I could have seen myself potentially supporting him for higher office. But goodness, once he attached himself to Trump post-2016, he really went off the rails.

You know what I think is really funny though? This isn't even my personal opinion. I didn't come up with this on my own. It's the opinion of just about every major political and social scientist. "Trumpism" is far more than just just Trump - the fact that 70 million people voted for someone you deem as the greatest existential threat to American justice and democracy should tell you something. This isn't about Trump - it's a fvcking aesthetic.

But much like Rigged and Sally, you'd rather eat your own sh!t off a silver platter than believe the experts and the people who study this sort of thing.
