It’s back now. No one from California was selected, but at least Mantecon got the bid which he should have, and hopefully they continue doing this in the future
Seems like they will. “To create the strongest starting line in the nation, in addition to the four team at-large-bids, Nike Cross Nationals will extend bids to two boys and two girls to compete at this year’s NXN and in all future years.”

Do you have to be a Nike Elite athlete to get these spots you didn't earn?
What the heck happened to mason nguyen? He dropped from 16th to 103rd over the 1st and second mile. Praying this isn't a repeat of last year and he is not injured or anything. Was really looking forward to beckman getting first place and advancing to nxn, seems like its not happening this year though :(
Sad to see, but they wouldn’t have beaten Mira Costa even if he won this race
You're right, Oakdale did run runninglane in 2022. They did still finish the year ranked 25th in 2023 despite not running a national meet. And looking at the teams that have gotten bids, I think you found the criteria. Its depth.
Sounds like how they choose it.
In 2022 Granada was at least 7-deep, and McCallie TN and Rocky Mountain ID weren’t chosen over them because their 5th man was too far back at NXR.
This year Mira Costa was chosen over Jesuit LA and Noblesville IN because the 5th runner on these teams was too far back at NXR
Damn, is that the fastest time for a team consisting entirely of NON-SENIORS? They should be right up there with Bellarmine's 2019 team time for that impressive accomplishment.
Actually, Campolindo’s 7th man is their only senior. But, San Clemente is returning everyone next year, and their times are definitely faster than 2019 Bellarmine
Times this year are much faster than 2019 because the shoe technology has changed
Looks like it is going to be another mud fun run, just missing the zombies. That's why I stopped watching NXN 2 years ago. It is going to be raining in Portland every day for the next 10 days. Just silly to hold this event in Portland in December, but that's where Nike is located and it's their event.
Given the predicted conditions, I think is nearly certain that 2 of the Cal teams finish outside of top 14. I also think it is very good chance 3 of teams finish outside top 12. This is not a knock on the Cal teams, just the reality of the conditions. I would have a much different opinion if this was held at Balboa Park.
Yes, you can say "it is the same conditions for everyone", and while that is true, the more useful truth is that it doesn't affect everyone the same.
Tully's Morning-Line has Cal at 4,12,14,16.
I am going with 4,13,16,18.
I hate to be negative, so I will say something positive about NXN. Even though I won't be watching, I am thankful for its existence since my main interest is just "who is the best team in California?", and for years the end of the year was clouded with 2 or more division champs claiming they were best, but didn't have the best merge score because they only ran hard enough to win their division. With NXN qualifying, that excuse goes away, and all the teams have to run all out. It makes the state meet much more interesting, so I'll take the good with the bad.
I'm still mad about Oakdale missing out. Absolute BS.
In 2023 If their 5th man was closer to their 4th, they would have taken 3rd in the merge and likely have gotten an at-large bid.
This is funny to me because on another thread I was writing about the importance of a teams 5th runner and I was told that 5th runner is not that that important. You just confirmed my point.
By the way Oakdale's #5 on that date had run 4:12 or 4:14 the previous spring.

I don't think Oakdale's #5 ever ran that fast. The #5 was Jacob Cavanaugh that year (who won them state the year before by coming out of nowhere to give them a solid 5th after Mason's being run over by the bus). I'm guessing if anyone ran a 4:12 or 4:14 it was his older brother Caleb that had graduated the year earlier.

You are correct. It was older brother that ran 4:14.97 at state preliminaries in 2023. Heck I made the same error as soon those results came out two years ago. But I still stand on the importance of a good #5.

C Cavanaugh was their 3rd runner, J Cavanaugh is the little brother who was the 5th. They also have another sibling on the team Aden Cavanaugh, who’s a freshman this year
