Because I have reason to believe it changed for RL 2021 and I need to confirm it didn't. At this point I don't believe it changed, but I don't mistake my "beliefs" for "knowledge", so I press on until I know. Don't worry, I'll check this box soon and go quiet again.
Disco,
Not sure if you ever found the answer you were looking for, but there is evidence that the course was lengthened by at least 40 meters between 2020 and 2022. I am not sure which version of the course was used in 2021.
To see the changes in the course, download Google Earth Pro if you don't already have it installed on your computer. Use the historical imagery function to toggle back and forth between 11/2020 and 11/2022 imagery. Notice the following differences:
1. The start line in 2022 is 8m behind the start line in 2020, adding 8m to the course length.
2. The finish line in 2022 is 5m past the finish line in 2020, adding another 5m to the course.
3. The U-turn at roughly the 2.8k mark (right next the the start line) has been reshaped, adding about 38 meters to the course length.
There were also about 60 meters added to the length of the 6k course by moving the turn that they take out of the starting area on the second lap.
In conclusion, time from 2020 should be disregarded for "record" purposes as the course has clearly been lengthened since then. Times from 2021 would depend on if that year used the 2020 or the 2022 course and if the 2022 course is accurate or if it remains short.
John Tucker measured the course with a tape and told me what he found with the understanding that I would not tell anyone else. I’ll only go so far as to say that the Newbury Park team was as good as those times implied. I had to work very hard to convince John that his measurement was correct. so I have my answer.
