I’m being serious.
All these Americans gutting out the crap year of 2020 are going to be sorely disappointed when they discover that no matter who wins, 2021 isn’t going to be better, and it may be worse.
No one realistically expects him to fix everything but he probably wouldn’t have made this mistake.
https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/522695-obama-highlights-bidens-tweet-from-a-year-ago-warning-trump-wasnt-ready-forHe also probably wouldn’t have hid the reality from the American public and then admit to it on tape. He probably wouldn’t have told people that 15 cases will be zero in no time. He probably wouldn’t have told the American public that it will go away with the hot weather. He probably wouldn’t have called Dr Fauci an idiot. He wouldn’t have held rallies, Herman Cain RIP. He wouldn’t have threatened to withhold money for red states because they’re mean to him.
I could go on and on but you get the idea.

Been saying this for a while, actually. No matter who wins, and even if an effective and safe vaccine is available early in the year, 2021 if going to be a hard, hard year. And here in NYC it's going to be very tough indeed.
I don't really agree with this. If the vaccines start rolling out, if there is more federal stimulus, if the economy keeps growing, if the political uncertainty eases...then 2021 could be fine.
From what I've seen, all those things are more likely than not. I don't really see how it can be worse, unless trump wins.
I think latter stages of 2021 could be okay but I think it’s a little optimistic to think we’ll roll in 2021 and all will be rosy.
My best guess is Q2 for a vaccine that will take some time to distribute and then we’ll have a load of loons who refuse to get it.

By the way yesterday Trump said at a rally “we already have vaccine and even if we didn’t we are rounding the corner”.
Both of those claims are WRONG. Biden might respect citizens enough to give them the truth.

nah he's sorta right.
there are many vaccines. They aren't approved yet. but there are vaccines and they are being used on humans. So technically he is correct, although he is intentionally misleading the public.
We are definitely not rounding the corner though...unless he mean rounding a corner from Badland to Verybadland.

take a look at economic forecasts from the big wirehouse banks. They are quite optimistic for growth. Last I checked anyway. But that's growth...we probably won't get back to the size of the 12/31/2019 economy for a couple years.
But don't underestimate the power of trillions of free federal dollars. That's real money.

Azar recently said there'd probably be a vaccine available for "the most vulnerable" by February and for the general public "by spring" and that's probably sane but optimistic. Presuming COVID incidence increases similar the seasonal flu, we're probably in for a rough winter before things get more like normal from a public health perspective. Only then does real recovery from the economic fallout start.
I hope I'm wrong about this.

Periodic tangential info: "Gerrymander" comes from Elbridge Gerry, fifth VP of the USA, and the name is pronounced with a hard "g"--as though it were spelled "Gary."
Come on, this is vital stuff!
Indeed, it IS vital stuff!
My sources tell me that it was originally pronounced with a hard "g" but that the modern pronunciation is with a soft "g" or "j" sound.
Also, the "mander" in gerrymander comes from the shape of the gerrymandered (before the word was coined) voting district in Elbridge Berry's Massachussettes that was said to have the shape of a salamander.
Where would we be without LRC?

The bolded piece is a HUGE "if."
The GOP can remember recent history as well as anyone else. They *strongly* resisted the stimulus efforts of the Obama administration in 2009, and we saw the rise of the Tea Party and a red wave in the 2010 elections.
If Biden wins, what's their incentive to cooperate in a meaningful federal stimulus in 2021? By their reckoning, it would only make him and the Democrats look good. (We already know the GOP legislators are not strongly motivated by the good of the country, so party considerations will prevail.) In general voters have short memories, and a miserable 2021-and-into-2022 will allow the GOP to blame the Dems and have their best chance of returning to control of both houses of Congress in the 2022 elections.

He is not sorta right, he is lying.
Until a vaccine has been approved we do NOT already have a vaccine. This isn’t complicated. Trump is bluffing, it’s what he does.
He also said he’d roll one out BEFORE the election, is he sorta right with that also?

Well, that depends. Did he specify the year of the election?

I'm assuming the fillibuster will be eliminated if the Dems win the senate and WH.
If that happens, there will be strong stimulus hitting the economy in 2Q.
But sure, if the Rs win the Senate but Biden wins the WH, the Rs will try to strangle the economy by having a minimal stimulus bill.

I think we have to give the press and social media some kudos here...they learned from 2016 and did better.
Twitter took the lead and put warnigns on false statements.
FB put limits on political ads
the mainstream media correctly rejected the hunter biden story.
Compared to the free-for-all in 2016, this is better. Sure, most magas are woefully misinformed and believe utter garbage, but the lies were more contained inside the right wing bubble of stupidity.
I'm still deeply worried about whether democracy can work in the age of social media, but this was better than last time, so that's good.
I think it was too little too late for FB. Russian trolls, QAnon and other conspiracy theorists ran free and wild there unchecked. The right wing militia groups organized themselves on their FB groups, totally unchecked despite the clear racism and bad intent they displayed. It was 3 and 1/2 years unchecked on FB, that’s a lot of damage that can’t be reversed over a couple of months leading up to election. And Twitter should have curbed trump’s chronic lying from the start of his presidency. He was no longer a private citizen and they have rules. They have mostly allowed him to violate their rules over and over. I’m glad there is some effort but that came about after huge pressure to clean house.

This is why we fail. BOTH parties are guilty. NEITHER work in good faith unless forced too.
Change the rules back to normalcy. Then require 100% vote to change them again.
We've gone from a government of compromise to one of extremes jerking left and right.
The general population are lemmings. They follow Trump or AOC or Biden because they don't know any better and are immensely stupid on both sides.

The problem isn’t the rule changes but the $hitty structure they are built on. It was set up to fail from the start. The country has hung on to this notion that the constitution is the first testament and not a live document. The founders never envisioned a dumb a$$ like trump would be able to win. There has always been too much trust in the “sacred” system. Throw in some nationalism and adoration for free markets/capitalism to exaggerate the brainwashing.
Over time the ultra rich have figured out how to exploit the system and give themselves a different set of rules to play by. They can buy votes, buy judges, buy laws. Politicians have been more than happy to do their bidding and have also figured out how dumb the electorate is. They haven’t even had to work hard to conceal their corruption. Just throw some gasoline on the fire and keep busy people hating each other while they get a pass doing jack $hit for the public. To many conservatives, trump was supposed to be the answer to this. LOL. It is fkn broken all around.

eh disagree.
Institutions are holding.
And the framers did know people like Trump would be elected. That's why the electoral college exists - it's supposed to ferret out people like him.
But the better answer is the balance of powers - that the legislative, judicial and executive are always battling it out.
And the states and federals are always battling it out.
That dispersion of power, that constant back and forth is what makes all this work. No one branch or person can amass too much power.
Certainly a 2nd trump term would challenge my optimism. Things might fall apart then.

1. Tell the public the truth. Give them the cold hard truth as a starting point which is really a hellish one being handed to him by trump. The POTUS can’t lie to the people, especially when lives are at stake.
2. Create a well-oiled scientific machine in DC. There should be a top notch team of experts making decisions and coordinating policy and best practices across the states. The POTUS contradicting his own experts and then handing the keys to Pence and Kushner to stop the virus was catastrophic.
3. Enforce sound policies and keep the pressure on governors who do not agree. Make an example of the well-behaved and poorly behaved states. Use legal means to enforce guidelines.
Those are three critical changes that I guarantee would cut the cases and deaths by at least 3/4.

It won’t resolve. They are not prepared for a trump loss. They are 100% invested in the idea that he is unbeatable and that anything and anyone contracting him is simply wrong. It will be a scary site and I cannot imagine there not being blood on the streets.
