Hot off the press gossip on runna ambassador globerunnergriff in the latest influencer associated with Runna debacle.
Wins the inter service cross country championships in the UK - as you can see from his Strava. Only he hasn't, was dq'd for a rule violation, costing himself first and his team the team medal. Unclear what the runna policy on inflating your results by infinity are.
I travel to Wales for a few road races each year so have encountered this bloke - and asked some friends there about him.
I've gone past him walking with 600m to go in a 10k, obviously when he's near the finish he sprints and plays it up for social media - no mention of the walking break anywhere.
For some context; he was DQ'd a month ago at Speedway 10k (a 10k set up for fast times, entry is fastest first and fills up by PBs) - it was extremely clear from the sign up and emails from the organisers that all headphones are banned. I can see some of Globerunners smoothbrain supporters on posts claiming that England Athletics allows shockz - they ban in ear/over ear from almost all events with a caveat for shockz, but leave it down to the race organisers themselves. I've done a few events in the past year that are moving to ban everything, especially in events with runners being lapped. Again, it was extremely clear at Speedway 10k and Globerunner was DQ'd... less than a month ago.
So to go and do it again, and then put up a post about "lessons learnt" and growing... It's a bit pathetic. Doesn't say much about the military either! Hilarious seeing people railing against the rules in his comments (and I assume he's liking their comments) - they'd want the rules followed if someone broke one and it impacted them.
It's getting boring seeing this wave of influncers come in, that want to exist outside of rules/attitudes/norms in the running community (not saying all are good, ie - track officials) but will also happily present themselves as experts, and also post about learning and growing after making mistakes that most of us either just won't do because our heads are far enough out of our a***es to read instructions, or we'd actually get in trouble for.
