This is the problem, though. He'll always push for the "train harder, not smarter" approach. The reality is that he'll gain nothing out of slogging through another marathon but will probably still do it.

Bit of a weird interaction. There's a difference between having a couple of days off and rotting in a prison cell for several months after being retarded enough to try and import drugs into Japan. I haven't missed him one bit, and he's gradually crawling out of the woodwork again.
RTJ has an easy pivot in his running/youtube career if he wants it. A series where he listens to good advice and trains like a sane person building up to a marathon. Sane athletes can still train hard Jake.
The sensible thing is to pull out of Tokyo and focus on London. Though he had some great workouts the past few months I feel the writing was on the wall as his training indicated more 5k-10k fitness than anything. Jake was missing quality long runs which as a carthorse should be his bread and butter. I think what did him in was that he managed to stay afloat on total volume, but the dispersion of the miles and total number of tough and fast sessions did him in.
I actually just went through something similar end of 2025 - I'm normally an endurance carthorse type like Jake but my LRs were all s*** despite being in top 5k and 10k shape. Just felt my endurance was off relative everything else. My goal race was a marathon and it was, unsurprisingly, a disappointing race.
Can someone explain to me if it appears recently he's just tried to add intensity while keeping volume astronomically high only ~2 months after going to the bottom of the well in Valencia and thereafter complaining about back problems limiting his ability to run long???? And somehow he still expects to race all out one week? Like, am I missing something here?
I'm a casual viewer of his Youtube channel (and not a Strava follower) but this is surely more than training harder not smarter. "Working hard" doesn't mean you've gotta be utterly foolish. I see a number of other posters are coming to the same conclusion though. It's bordering on frustration territory for me rather than intrigue...

I think he's actually a lot more "sensible" than first time viewers and a lot of people on here will admit. He runs easy at 4:30-5:00/km which is more than reasonable for a 2:14 marathoner. His days are well planned out and easy days correctly placed and sandwiched between sessions. He leans into the high volume and train harder image for his brand but it's not like his training plan is him throwing darts blindfolded. Also, the ChatGPT physio is something he pretty clearly jokes about.
I predict he does in fact pull out of Tokyo. He has nothing to gain and everything to lose with a knee injury popping up 2 weeks out. London I can imagine is very important to him.
Agree about Matt Fox, total idiot. Some Spanish guy already called him out in the comments and Matt Fox, completely on brand here has smugly told the guy (who apparently he was trying to help) he's been blocked.
I had to go back and watch to make sure I wasn't hallucinating - instead of going to the toilet, in the house, like a normal person - she pisses in a bowl and pours it out the window, they then wash that bowl and put it back in the cupboard like absolute wrong 'uns.

I agree with you. He can still train high volume but cycle in and out of it sensibly with the right approach. If he can get on a proper Japanese club under an experienced coach, I think he can find the right balance. Right now I think he has this mental block where he basically needs to hit this 280 km target every week.
I've honestly been there before at a much lower number (100 miles) and without the pressure of 100k+ subscribers. It f***s you up. You just keep telling yourself, I can make it to this total and you grind your ass off but it's not the most optimal way to train. I think Jake knows that deep down.
Remember, RTJ is not the only guy doing high volume. I imagine all the top Japanese guys are. Cam Levins in the west, Kiptum was ripping 300km weeks etc. But these guys are all doing it under world-leading coaches. They know how to cycle in intensity.
He does have th red cheeks/epo flushing. Hall mark of epo usage and elevated red blood cell count. Look at old photos of Craig mottram for a good example of this
a lot of poshos just look like that. they're not doing blood boosters in the toilets at boodles
14:43 5k and 63 min half looks mad written down but presumably he's actually a diesel 14:20 man now
would be funny if he locked in and somehow became a serious marathon international. british team would be like the monty python sketch: "i am working class (cairess); "i am middle class" (sesemann); "i am upper class" (rice gimmick instagram boy)

I genuinely don't like that he keeps spreading the fact that Kenyans dope and making it sound like they all do.. You should first experience how hard is to live and train over there before pushing such message around, the doping situation is a complex topic.
A lot of people would disagree with me I know, but he should just stick with Japan and don't bother thinking about Kenya or people getting caught for doping, this happens, happened in many other countries/sports and it will happen again.
I see people asking him if Kipchoge and Kiptum were doped.. smh 🤦♂

Jake is 100% correct here and if anything respect to him for standing on his nuts on that. Very few high level marathoners call out the very obvious elephant in our sport. Wonder why?

Do we think it’s a coincidence that Fox makes this slightly barbed comment on Jake’s Strava the same day that RTJ appears as a guest on Nick Besters YouTube podcast?

Your answer should consider the implications of people who are not overweight taking drugs to lose weight so they can run faster, and possibly give themselves serious health problems (eg sacral stress fractures)

Yes he is correct, but he said it more than a few times now, is kind of repetitive, he is a content creator so fair enough..
I don't like the way how he is demonizing going to train in Kenya linking it with doping.. Iten and surroundings are literally a runner's paradise and running there is a real challenge for anyone, some people listening to him will think is a drug den and you should stay away from it 😅 I know that's not his message and fair play to him to speak up about the doping matter, but is a very delicate topic...✌

I think this is good insight and not like so many on here that adopt a rage bait approach of "why is he so stupid?". People seem to confuse his tagline with reality: he's very analytical and "smart". They also seem surprised when a professional athlete gets injured: it goes with the territory. I agree that he'll likely pull out of Tokyo and focus on London.

Is it a runners paradise? The main sessions are on a busy road with no pavement. Seems a bit treacherous and I can’t see the enjoyment in that. Not to mention a Western athlete will have a completely different diet to what they are used to.
Believe it or not, I'm just one person who likes to follow this thread, as well as the content from the folks that are discus-ed, trying to keep an objective mind about things. I am not on anyone's PR team lol. (Oh wait, actually, I'm AI generated. That's gotta be it!)
Anyways, about the PED allegations, I still don't feel like he's using, and I hope he's not. If anything ever comes out to prove that he's dirty, then that definitely would change my perspective, as it would about anyone who's proven to be a cheater and/or a fraud.
If you're not paid PR then that's just pathetic. It's actually harder to believe you're just slobbing knob for the love of the game.
Who’s the female runfluencer Fox mentions at the end of his latest IMO epsoide who supposedly had been seen doing dodgey things by her house mates re substances? And what is it? Maybe I’m late

If you click 'Quote post' then it saves us having to go back 5 days.
I can’t believe he ran sub 15 for the first time then ran it twice back to back so soon after in the Valencia 10k
They’re a load of crap no way a 16:10 5k converts to a 2:30 marathon
Where is the part about Sabriah training? Reels and stories don't show it, unless it's buried in a YT vid somewhere, no snark, I hope she does well actually. I know SJD (the man, the myth, the legend) trained TL at one point and she got quicker.
Bumping. Will Sabriah enter a race soon? Even she will tire of Floberg.
