Liam Anderson ran the same 5K time at NXN that he did at Woodward Park for states. Yet, 2022 for example had some of the best weather conditions ever for NXN, and yet no California kids got close to Woodward Park times (except for Sahlman). Why is that?
You can also include Ayala in that list- where are these freshman studs coming from? I mean, ik of Thronson (quite literally from the area- also from the same middle school and club that Alberts and Ogilvie competed in; bro also ran 4:29 as an 8th grader- currently at Davis) and Olbekson (4:25 8th grader running at Menlo school)
If you treat it like a disadvantage, it will become one. Treat it like an advantage. Think of it like that we get to peak at state and nxn at the same time.
Great Oak won nxn. Newbury Park won nxn. Arcadia won nxn. There is no reason to let the negative mindset get the best of us.
With the massive talent pool in CA, this state should have way more NXN championships. Just because a few teams have won doesn't mean we should ignore the disadvantage of running a gauntlet 3 weeks in a row before NXN.
CIF-SS especially has a huge disadvantage, running a brutal Mt. Sac course twice in a row, then they have to travel up to Clovis to run a tough Woodward course at States, then leave 5 days later for Oregon. Meanwhile, many of the teams at NXN had 1-2 weeks to rest and train and prepare for a very different type of course and conditions.
I get it. Excuses are like A-holes: everyone has one, they stink, and nobody wants to hear them. But there is a definite disadvantage, and tweaks can be made to the schedule to align it with what the rest of the country is doing.
JSerra is still missing senior transfer Newman who ran a 9:25 last spring. He was on the entries list for Woodbridge so I guess he doesn’t have an SOP.
And on the girls side, Polay was missing but all of their top 6 in the race were nonseniors
I think at the moment the tie is justified.
JSerra is super all in on their track times (especially the lower distances) while Oaks Christian seems to value their XC times more based on last year's results. So it's kind of hard to use the track times here when there are so many unknowns on the OC side.
The transfer missing for JSerra and then Oaks's new 3rd scoring runner being a sophomore running his first XC race makes Rich's ranking going the safe route of a tie sound better. OC has the higher potential imo but they are only 5 deep while JSerra has way more depth and experience at the highest level races in both XC and track.
Now that Newman is #1 on JSerra, they are for sure better than Oaks Christian, even without Morales. JSerra has some good depth, so they have more cushion for an off-day than Oaks Christian does
more california teams should try to go out to this next year. It's real xc and prepares you well for nxn. Parra went there with his team last year and did quite well at nxn.
Why would CA teams go all the way out there instead of going to Clovis? You say more teams should go there to get ready for NXN. Exactly how many teams from CA know they are going to NXN to focus on that instead of State?
Probably to build the resume for at-larges? Not so likely that a boys team will get it this year, but better chances in the future years because many of the top California boys teams are really young
miles led first mile ish, arrin led a couple laps in the middle, cook and benjamin had it for abit then arrin took with a a lap to go
arrin told me before that miles cook and him had an agreement to share pacing duties, which makes sense cuz arrin passed cook for the first time at the start finish line, when cook went wide to let him through

I rather Cal teams go to this than Portland OR. I don't know why so many teams went portland or anyway. Bob Firman, Manhattan are great for preparing your runners for hard courses.
Good pick up. That team is large already. I wonder if they won’t be able to bring in as big of a class as they typically have been because of these impending roster caps.
People who hate Rich Gonzalez probably think it’s the “Rich in CA” guy that starts all these random threads on here, such as making fun of apartment renters. At first I thought “Rich in CA” was Rich Gonzalez’s username, but then when I actually look at those threads, I was like….I can’t imagine Rich G’s personality being like this
can everyone do us past california runners a big favor and just pretend that Mt Sac no longer exists? The Invitational is going on in the next two days. But honestly let's just not talk about it on here. I can't believe they changed one of California's most historic hill courses.
ML King has 3 pretty good male transfers. Only problem is that 1 of them is going to run against girls. This is an absolute travesty to girls sports, which should be protected beyond the limits of any political agenda.
Who is the male transfer running against girls?
The 'male' transfer at ML King does not exist. While it is true that transgender female athletes such as Abigail do have a biological advantage, there are some scenarios where it isn't enough to matter. Looking at her time from IEC last week, she is not a threat to anyone as she barely broke 20 minutes. She barely made varsity for ML King, and is no competition for most of the Big 8. She will likely not impact ML Kings standings in CIF at all. , instead of throwing shade on insignificant trans athletes such as Abigail, find someone who will actually affect things to hate on.
So it's only unfair if it doesn't affect the outcome? Isn't THAT discrimination that you only single out trans athletes that are high performers? This is just stupid....(real) boys on one side, (real) girls on the other. When you start making exceptions that's when the water gets muddy.
