Every time Matt Fox and Nick Bester put together another sub 2:20 attempt I can’t help but watch with keen interest.
Matt Fox lost nearly 10lb in 2 months and looks to be quite fit. Nick Bester ran a bad half marathon last week but just hit a solid 3 x 10km session that easily indicates sub 2:20.
Unfortunately for them, each will get into his own head and run 2:2x for the umpteenth time. It’s a curse.
1) Matt lost the 10lbs by cutting out carbs except for the night before a session. I wonder how sustainable that is for an impending marathon attempt? Luckily he wont need any glycogen for that right?
iirc it was an episode of For The Kudos where Brett R. said he also cuts out carbs in the weeks before a marathon, and then reintroduces them in the few days beforehand.
with 2 weeks to Berlin, Bester continues his strict overtraining regime:
Tue - 10x1K, 4x500, still complaining about a cold last week Thu - 10x2min/1min fartlek Fri - 14:48 5K race Sat - 3K WU, 16:40/5K, 3K jog, 15:13 parkrun, 3K jog, 16:40/5K, 3K CD
Why? Where do these people get the idea to do this? Not a single professional marathoner does this, no running book tells you to do this, no coach advocates for it...

and for only £180/month, you too can be personally coached by Nick to receive such groundbreaking ideas....

yeah but how has that gone for him in races? He's ran only 1 decent time in his last 10x races over 2years.
and before you blame it on injuries instead of fuelling, there is obviously a direct line between consistently under-fuelling and causing injuries
I'm just saying it's not necessarily a clearly effective approach, just because Matt listens to their podcast and jumps on some experiment Brett is doing. Imagine what state we'd all be in if we copied every one of Stephen Scullions half-cooked training-changes!
Cole Running make a pretty impressive comeback from a long period off for injury; he also ran a high-15 5K after only a couple weeks back into running. I've never found his videos all that exciting, but as someone who knows how brutal the grind is to get back into form after a catastrophic stress fracture, I totally respect him for this.

*Cole has been talking for ages about no longer over-training and under-fuelling. In this video already he does a 5K race only 5days after a HM, and the night before his HM is counting the number of meatballs he can have for dinner.
It's insane how quickly people revert to bad habits, for the camera.

Oh damn, I missed that part -- as someone who struggled with an eating disorder and later underfueling (hence the stress fractures), that's hard to watch.
How doesn't he know all the issues with this guy who is persona non grata in half of the world?
It's bizarre, especially from a guy who came across as kind of likeable/socially aware compared to other youtubers. Seeing his thumbnail with a big grinning Matt Fox left a really bad taste. "Hey, remember that guy who has had very public anti-semitic meltdowns, sends multiple abusive and bigoted messages to his clients, has an allegedly very shady history with multiple female athletes, and openly admits to using AI to respond to his paying customers? Yeah that guy? HE'S MY COACH NOW ISN'T THAT EXCITING?!!"
I can only imagine he's heavily curating the comments.
The new kid on the block, Yowana, calls out “Disrespectful Little Boys” that do advertisements rather than real shoe reviews because they are getting flown to Jamaica, Berlin, Chicago, etc. by the shoe companies.
I would check this guy out, but his shoe review videos are an hour long. How on earth does he fill that much time?

Stream of consciousness with honest shoe reviews/comparisons of models. Some humour and sarcasm. Putting in the work.
The NB 1080v14 review was only 1.5 hours long. If you have 1.5 hours a day to watch meaningless things, fooling around, and random thoughts, then your life must be quite poor.

…if you can afford to waste 1.5 hours on a first run video you must in fact be rich or privileged in some way, or maybe you are just gay for Yowana’s legs?
