It is pretty dry tbf but it’s almost refreshing against some of the OTT hop around trends you see from others, he’s got more realistic energy levels for someone training those miles. Ah interesting, hadnt heard of them before him, group like that is great way to elevate club runners.
The Cottage group has been going donkey's years.
The history goes back to not long after WWII, at least at the original Laureston Cottage(s) on Wimbledon. To save me typing it out, there's a story at the link below. It was very close to where the change over on the old Wimbledon Southern 12 stage relay used to be.
Another American in not understanding British sarcasm or humour shocker!
...
People who think calling a guy named Felton "Fenton" is such a funny joke they have to repeat it a hundred times shouldn't lecture anyone about humor (fixed the spelling for you).
"Oh Jesus Christ", it's very funny for a number of reasons! First, Fenton does not have the respect of the hobby jogging community to be addressed by his real name. Second, he looks a bit cartoon animal like -- perhaps a weasel or bemused dog . Third, it adds a some humour to his dull persona.
Some people either cannot be alone with their thoughts or simply have no thoughts at all and need music
I just presume that anyone who runs with headphones is so thick that they need the headphones in remind them to breathe in and out.
I'll forgive a podcast on for an easy run, and anything goes on a treadmill. But headphones to race is real questionable behaviour no matter the rules.
(When you keep getting dq'd for wearing them in races it's even more sus.)
My point is how low hes happy to go for a bit of cash As others have rightly pointed out, Sports Direct have a long history of sh1thousery when it's comes to employment law. Not exactly the best "partner" to align "your values" with and just proves Fenton doesn't have 2 brain cells to rub together
He's probably just trying to shake the 'His uncle owns Pro-Direct' nepo-baby rumors that started popping up on here.
For those outside the UK, Sports Direct is a sportswear outlet with a terrible reputation and borderline scam practices, ran by a fat f*ck who used to own Newcastle United.
May I add Sports Direct have been repeatedly accused of using third world sweat shops a long documented history of extremely poor labour conditions. There is case in the UK where a woman where a woman gave birth at work and insisted on carrying on working, fearing her job.
I don't know what's worse Fenton taking money from this scum bag company or Bester taking UAE money tainted with horrific human rights abuses.
I quite like Ben "Fenton" , I'd go so far to say I'm a fan of his. Mini-segway I'm also a fan/impressed by his partner Meg, doing a different approach to work is something that far people should do/try and celebrate her for that, my impression being a lot of bad vibes are out of jealousy.
That being said, I really dislike Sports Direct, due to its ethics and values (another example to add, is not adhering to national minimum wage, like wtf).
My gut reaction was one of huge disappointment in him.
I'm trying to reflect, and be honest, if I were in his position would I take the money?...it would be really difficult to refuse. I think deep down I would, as frankly, most money isn't clean. There's a line somewhere, I agree, but probably around companies/organisations/states that materially destroy human rights/contribute to genocide. For all my dislike of Sports Direct, I don't believe it meets those triggers.

To be fair to him, he does mention this in his instagram - including the reason for DQ and that it’s a lesson learnt.
Feels like genuine naivety so fairly forgivable, I’m more surprised the Inter Service XC officials enforced it!
Maybe, although the added context of this being his second DQ for wearing headphones against race rules within a few weeks of each other makes the naivety point somewhat less clear to me. Fool me once and all that... I might start trading race rules more closely if it has happened to me unexpectedly recently.
Does make me wonder what the fastest runner wearing headphones is, like you don't see many sub 70 guys wearing them - has anyone out there got anyone faster racing in headphones? Is there some super strictly enforced contract he has? Is he absolutely dependent on a metronome for his cadence?
I have never understood racing in headphones. I don't train or race in them but I do understand why you might want them for a long training run, but surely when you are racing a 5 k or a cross country you don't need music to stimulate you?
Phily Bowden will be announcing today that she has signed with Lululemon.
If this is serious, I genuinely think it's a very good fit. She's, seemingly, on the whole, loved by women and mildy disliked by men (she would probably argue misogyny, others might say its just taste and preferences).
So a brand which targets/ties in with people who like her works well. Without grating any meaningful amount of people who already like the brand but would be annoyed by her.
*Generalised statements about genders and view of Phily, which of course there's lots of exceptions, but main factor in whether people like her, does seem to be gender.*

The “Cottage” training group that Sandison trains with was started c.2015 by Phil O’Dell in Bedford - they used to meet for runs at his house, and he did name it a cottage as inspired by Lauriston, but there’s no direct overlap or association (apart from maybe a few Wimbelon guys who train from both)
Mark Lloyd (coach) of Cottage Relocated (Battersea Park) podcast episode on the Sunday podcast is a good listen

Yes, she seems to have rabid fans who have been sold on her fake, wacky personality.
The idea of high end running fashion is a grotesque symbol of consumerism; a complete was of money and resources. However, I can see the logic of Phily singing with them. It will probably be big money and, unlike ON, the brand may actually want to admit they support her.
Its a smart move for both sides. With On she needs real results in elite races and On got their people at track and so on. A lot of them raced already in the last weeks.
She is way behind that group and also no chance for a outstanding marathon this year, so its better to sell followers a fashion brand, making girly girly videos and photos. Follower will buy this content.
There was the guy who led the 1983 Boston Marathon, I can't remember his name but he was with the leaders for about the first half of the race. He was wearing headphones with a Walkman cassette player! Some of the other runners were pointing at him and laughing.
Mary McCarthy blaming a change of routine, life stress, and the geography of Sydney as the main contributors to her injury...Quickly looking at her Instagram, this jumps off the page as the biggest contributor to me...
She ran a 24km LR immediately before boarding her flight from London to Sydney. So there's 24 hrs+ of suboptimal sleep and recovery. A few days later she runs a 30km LR in Sydney. In her Instagram caption she writes it was a "tough run, on not much sleep, a couple days flying across the world, and NYE". This was then followed by a 30km hard effort four days later.
Seems strikingly obvious to me that stacking hard LRs four days after each other, while compromising your recovery is what did her in. Majority of us here travel and drink beer. But it's delusional to ignore your life/recovery stresses
