Which, frankly is the problem. Politicians are not well suited to judging technology. The "means of production" that they invest in never have to show a profit--they just have to tell a story. Misallocation of capital-while perhaps not a sensational as a violent Castro style revolution-is just as damaging to an economy.
Tesla is a great example--what rational government would provide tens of thousands of dollars in subsidies to people who can afford $80,000 sports cars. The answer, of course, is our government. Solar panels same thing--One can spend 30 grand on solar panels and harvest a 40 percent tax credit to reduce fossil fuel demand by a few kilowatts. The same 12 thousand dollars could be spent on LED's that would reduce fossil fuel demand by 10 times as much. But the folks who manufacture solar panels apparently control congress more than the folks who manufacture LED's.
And it's not just the dems. Corn ethanol, anyone? Misallocation of capital by powerful people who are on the take is the problem.

But, you miss the gist of what I am saying about the political system, whether it is Democratic or Republican, you have a system that not only politicises the highest court, but does so for a long time after those who appointed them have left office, or the will of the electorate has changed.
That actually deems it irrelevant to look at her judicial record, what does it matter? What matters is the system itself and why she was appointed, that is why USA is slipping down the democracy ranking (one of many reasons anyway).
However people are oblivious to what is being taken from them, the pretence of voting for 'less govt', 'swamp draining', when you are actually getting more autocratic control
...and I have been wondering what it is about the USA electorate that makes them so blind, then I was watching the ad infinitum crime docos on Nettflix, a bottomless pit of stories about 'trailer people' etc...and I sort of understand

True, just political posturing and bickering. Embarrassing for all, but let the political party without hypocrisy throw the first stone.
The cheap shots and political theater are as old as our country, that is expected to make up most of the filler in such events. In this nomination, Dems don’t have a say at all on the outcome, so all they can do is use their time to send messages that help them in their home states. Actually, Rs will do that here too because it does not matter at all what comes out of these hearings, they will vote her into the SC anyway.
As for Hirono’s use of her time, there should be no outrage. She did not accuse ACB of anything and actually asked her standard screening questions that any male nominee would be asked. We should all be ok with that. ACB is under oath so yes I’d also like to know all the answers to issues that could possibly disqualify her.
Here’s Hirono making a good point also and directly hitting ACB on substance, for her continued use of the words “sexual preference” in her work, which as we all know is how conservatives view non heterosexual relationships. It brings up an excellent point about how ACBs personal views will affect her decisions on the court. Seeing gay orientation as a “preference” and not the way someone is born has been a traditional scapegoat on the right for pretending there should not be any associated rights. For the LGBT community this is a massive deal.

It would never surprise me that corrupt people would be drawn to politics and happily sell out their voters. What does surprise me is that the electorate is not only ok with that, but even cheer on and award their politicians. It’s really fascinating when you think about it. Politicians have been advocating for giving away the people’s power to interest groups and the electorate (especially on the right) thinks it’s a great thing. The result is that politicians get elected to work against the people and repay favors to donors who got them in. And you’re exactly right about the pretense.
