He changed his Facebook profile picture to one that he'd uploaded on July 7th 2014. Whilst the 18 comments are all new, many of those 235 likes may be from before the TransCon debacle and obviously from before making friends with 10,000 Turks.

I don't think we should presume that he has more than 18 fans these days.

The reason the media isn't picking up this story is because nobody outside of the running community really cares about this. We are all hot and bothered, but the non-running world couldn't care less. The media is only going to cover things that interest people.

Cheating stories are always big news but enough publications featured him favourably that they don't want to admit that they were hoodwinked.

Which publications featured him favourably? Was he featured at all? I hadn't even heard of the guy until after the Trans 'con' was over and a link to the interview where he declined to comment on the cadence thing kept popping up on my Facebook feed. That was the thing that got me interested.

There seems to be a misconception on this forum that he's a big celebrity in the UK, but the reality is that barely anyone knows who he is, even within the running community. More people know about him now because of the bad publicity but a few months ago if you'd said the phrase 'marathon man uk' to any runner, including myself, most people would have assumed you were talking about Ben Smith, who is reasonably well known as he connects to runners via local clubs wherever he goes.

RY may be more well known in London, where he's based, but I don't think he is anywhere else in the country.

It is interesting to note that it is common for children who grew up in foster homes, orphanages, etc. to be very frequent liars. It is a survival mechanism to lie and manipulate. And often even when the circumstances change and the lies are unnecessary they continue to lie, even about the most irrelevant things. I have heard many stories from foster/adoptive parents that they can literally catch a child in the act of doing something and they will vehemently deny it. (sound familiar...)

Children in these situations often have difficulties in making true, personal relationships. However, they can sometimes be superficially very charming as they have learned to use it as a tool to manipulate and get what they want. (also sounds familiar...)

You can't analyze a guy over the Internet and I wouldn't be qualified to do so even in person, but I am struck by some of RY's behaviors and those that can be exhibited by children with very difficult upbringings. I doubt at least half of what he claims his childhood was like, but I do believe it was difficult. Which really does just make me sympathetic to him as a person.

I am struck by the same feeling. However that just make me think what an exploitative cockwomble Dustin Brooks is. Making money off a guy who clearly has issues and continuing to deny everything because it's not him who will bear the brunt of it.

I have a recent roommate from this kind of backround, and this describes him to a "T". Smart, charismatic, but unreliable and lies almost reflexively about minor things, unable to sustain relationships, etc..

Ben Smith is yet another example of a person hurt by RY's duplicity. Some observers will now question any and all UK charity runners. These athletes now fall under a cloud of suspicion through no fault of their own, and the charities they represent will suffer as well. To those who say RY is doing no harm, I say quite the opposite!

Good, this is how it should be, if you've done/doing nothing wrong you've got nothing to fear, it's called transparency.

Any chance Rob is going to show up at the Chicago Marathon? If so, I may have to change plans to head to Chicago on Sunday to witness the miracle man himself.

I think it's unlikely, as he doesn't seem to have shown up to any of the recent races he has listed on his site.

Even though I'd like him to disappear off the scene completely, part of me wants him to attempt the Spine Race (which he has listed) as it will probably show him up for the bang average runner he is.
