Pretend some of the monuments still around are even more overt than the ones today. Would you be defending a statue commemorating a Klansman?Would you be defending a statue of a burning American flag beneath a healthy Confederate one? Would it be fascistic to knock those down? I don't think it's unreasonable at all to take down monuments that celebrate treason and were constructed in the early 1900s for the explicit purpose of promoting white supremacy. The fact that Nazi White Supremacists see them as a vital rallying point is all anyone should need to know that they ought to go. To imply that this will lead to some slippery slope that ends in demolishing the Lincoln memorial or something is the height of absurdity.

You conjured up a defense for someone that has a history of violence against his own mother.

Not to speak for my fellow poster, but look at this incredible leap you make. I'm confident that this person intentionally plowed through that crowd, but everyone is due their day in court. Quote me anyone saying that we should just jail him forever or execute him without trial and I will repudiate that statement instantly.

Most of these monuments were put up more recently to celebrate figures that fought for a government in rebellion to the United States for which maintaining slavery and the subjugation of non-white people was central to its foundation, as written into the CSA constitution.

Not when white nationalists get pissed off that their heroes of white dominance will no longer be displayed on public property.

The people decide through their elected representatives. I don't think it was right for a mob of people to take down that statue. I am happy to see it gone but it shouldn't have been taken down that way. There's a civil way to state that we as a state aren't going to celebrate people who fought for the evil that is slavery.

This isn't a "vibe". I'm outright saying the the Antifa are the SOLE cause of the violence at this rally, period. They went to a legal rally with the explicit intent to violently deprive people of their right to free speech. This was a criminal act that should be condemned by every decent person in the country. If the left-wing would stop beating up on people, rioting, shooting cops, tearing down monuments, breaking windows, burning buildings, destroying cop cars, and looting stores, then the overall level of political violence in this country would drop to almost zero.

Why are there no Democrat politicians calling for this? Has every single Democrat been fooled by the Big Lie?

Trump is a salesman AND a politician.

I will gladly make the call that Antifa needs to go away.

But the KKK and the neo-Nazis were committing violent acts of terrorism long before Antifa ever existed. The KKK and neo-Nazis are organizations that support and commit acts of violence that far surpass anything Antifa has ever done.

That said, I will indeed defend their right to march and protest peacefully. Every Democrat I've heard from believes this too.
