Fry is a well known doper. It angers me so much seeing him getting big brand deals and such. He was literally being promoted by the official WTCS Triathlon page in a video with Alex Yee for the upcoming race in London before they were obviously informed about him and it was promptly deleted
I remember he used to joke about taking EPO way before going full influencer, those captions have now changed.
I remember seeing him in an influencer video at a marathon and going "hmm ill look him up he always seems to be in an influencer pace group" and the pinned post saying "EPO can cure a stress fracture" or something along those lines.
could all be jokes obvs but changing captions when you then switch to trying to be an influencer from just posting as a layman is suspect af
With Hugo, I don’t really see why it matters that much if he’s doping. Yes, there’s an ethical issue. But as dull as his content is, none of it seems to involve selling supplements, training plans, or shilling products on the back of his performances. In fact, despite being one of the fastest influencers, he does not seem to use his times as part of his identity. I am sure this is part of his manicured personality. In my view, he's just been experiencing noob gains over the last few years -- he's not been running long.
I have only ever had the displeasure of being pushed his garbage content on Tiktok and Insta but he certainly has sponsors and promotes products from what I have seen anyway.
Regardless why should someone only be an issue if they are cheating and promoting stuff? Cheats are the scum of the sport and should be irradicated from the community and its comments like this that makes them think they'll get away with it...
No doubt if/when he is caught he'll play the "I didnt understand the severity of what i was doing and got caught up trying to chase times" nonsense but its no excuse and imo anyone who is known to be cheating should be publicly called out, shamed and banned from all UK athletics sanctioned events for life.

I'm sure everyone agrees but is there any objective evidence that he is doping? All I'm seeing is people inferring it from an admittedly very impressive progression. Don't think that's fair tbh.
Fry is an avid reader of this forum so I imagine he’ll be addressing it soon.
Most people I know think he’s up to no good. There’s a lot of amateurs across many sports doing it so feels wrong to single him out but yes his progression is absurd considering some of the injuries he’s had. Yes he trains incredibly hard, but how is one able to train that hard when they have a history of BSIs like he does…

Ok so just to confirm then, you *believe" he is doping, which is your prerogative I guess, but you do not have evidence let alone proof?
Fordy Runs with a video promoting Chinese shoes. I expected him to be very negative to ensure people use Sportsshoes or Start Fitness or whoever he is shilling for but he was actually quite complimentary

Strange comment from Goddard on Fry's race day reel. Are they reading this thread and mocking us?
I watched another recent video of his and thought it was OK. myths in marathon running. i think when hes presenting by himself directly to camera he comes off OK. he did say not to put goal pace into every long run which made me laugh thinking of this place.
In full disclosure i also watched the latest Ben Felton/Fenton video (as i have family in Santa Pola so was interested) and it was also fine. Meg relegated to a few seconds camera time helped greatly.
theres a couple of people i cant watch but these 2 are OK in small doses.

I never said I had any evidence. I was just adding my thoughts to the discussion, as is sort of the whole point of these threads

Probably. But Fry’s also been posting EPO jokes for ages so it’s not really anything new and those sort of things always get good traction. They’re all just playing the game really. Hence so many other “influencers” commenting. It’s just a suckoffathon to try and crack the algorithm

I think Goddard is gullible enough to think that Fry is some kind of clean hero runner that just gets great results because he eats rice and overtrains. From his interview with RTJ its obvious that Goddard has 0 clue at all about even the medium to top level of club running let alone elites, he was so obviously out of his depth speaking with Jake and wont be able to comprehend the difference between an obvious doper vs hardworking elite/subelite athletes (RTJ, Felton, Bester etc).
Unfortunately with doping its a case as old as time the same as any other addiction and such - Where they pull in as many people as they can for validation until the web of lies cant continue any longer.
Eh, it's still a bit funny. They were constantly sh-tting on Kristoffer Ingebrigtsen in that thread because he supposedly had lost his way and they claimed it was his own fault that he's constantly injured/sick -- but now that sirpoc does all this weird crosstraining doubles and has been injured for half a year or something, it's suddenly okay, everyone gets injured, yadda yadda yadda.
That is incredible inconsiderate as well, given what was happening in the life of KI at that time (a very public trial against his father, daily front page news in every norwegian newspaper etc) and what he shared about himself in the same period (anxiety attacks that, if I recall right, he hinted to self-medicating with alcohol).
Fair play hahaha. Definitely have a lot to learn in the sport and need to drop the ego! I’ve never pretended to be an expert, and definitely have had a bit of a chip on my shoulder for no reason, but there is constructive feedback in even the deepest of digs. Poor execution by me. With that being said, I’ve turned down brands like Runna that have reached out to me 3+ times because id rather earn my way into a world major than promote a service I’ve never used and don’t believe in for a free flight and bib. Lessons learned and time to rest and get better at the basics.
respect for coming back here for your slice of humble pie, genuinely gl in your next one
Yeah I’ve got a lot of time for that response from Griff too. Have to admit don’t really know who he is other than what’s posted here but think he has come across pretty well here. I’m now a supporter.
He obviously wasn’t quite ready for Sub 3 but we all have these humblings in running from time to time and he’s clearly not far off. Unlike RunThePlanet.
Hope he sticks to more legitimate courses in the future though. The achievement will feel so much better if not done on a heavily net downhill course.
Griff- get yourself to the UK with proper runners rather than all the hyrox bro, pick mes, over there.
If you can run a sub 3 on a cold wet, hilly day in Stoke with MARM - you know you’ve really made it

Ya, the ripping on KI ticked me off even as someone who follows NSM. They said he kept getting sick/injured because he runs his easy runs too fast. Never mind the fact he flies/travels all over for work, plus has little kids.
If you plug his 1/2 marathon time into the calculator we use, he was hardly even running the easy runs that fast. But they all felt smug like they thought they had his problems figured out. "If only he'd slow down & run at 8 min mile pace" or something, lol.

People in running clubs are bitter. They often play the doping card when they seem people improve beyond their level. Honestly, a lot of these clubs are more toxic that the LR forums.
I can see how they upset by Fry. Training hard their whole lives and some upstart who took up running a few years ago has surpassed them.

Ok but you're talking about a real person here. Do you not see how publicly defaming them without evidence is kind of grim?
Giving my own opinion on something based on what information is available, along with my own experience and judgement, is not defaming anyone. So to answer your question: no.
