Since 2016 I've been telling anyone who would listen that Trump was a terrible businessman. At first, only a few would go so far as to say he was "terrible" at it. But as time went on, most of us have seen the light. Trump is just really, really bad at business.
But WOW!!! It turns out that I was way off.
Trump may be the WORST businessman in history. I defy you to find anyone who has sustained this magnitude of losses over his lifetime.
Donald J. Trump. Worst businessman of all time.

Actually, as has been pointed out, it is *possible* that those tax returns were relayed to the NYT legally.
I frankly doubt it, but it is possible. As one example (though I find it extremely unlikely), his wife could have given their joint returns to the paper.

Everyone but the Trumpettes knew from the beginning that Trump was a terrible businessman.
Try not to pat yourself on the back so much - you might pull a muscle.

Richard Nixon did precisely that, when trying to convince Americans that he wasn't a (tax) crook.
Your tax returns are your personal documents and you're free to release them to the public.
Everybody knows that.
Judging from some of the comments we've been hearing for the last four years--no, I think there are large numbers of people who *don't * know that.
The entire LR lib echo chamber is losing it today because they don’t understand what depreciation is. If the IRS has no issue with his return, then no one else should. The benefits you get from tax versus book depreciation are for companies that INVEST in their growth. This is why real estate is a great investment.
Not only did Trump pay his taxes, but he overpaid them in order to have them used against future income. The NYT lied in their framing. Trump actually paid to the US Treasury $1 million in 2016 and $4.2 million in 2017. Most libs won’t read the entire story and the NY Times inserted the real figures at the bottom of the story... long after most will stop reading it.
Who leaked Trump’s tax returns to the NY Times? 26 U.S. Code § 7213 makes it illegal to disclose unauthorized information, including tax returns.

Actually if he did release a report before the election--and the report said there was nothing criminal going on, as it probably will--that would be even less helpful for the Prince of Orange.
This way, there can still be a "maybe" in voters' heads.
Dementia Joe won't agree to drug tests because he will indeed fail. His docs are perfecting the "Biden sauce" of Aricept, Namenda and Donepezil for tomorrow's debate.

And Trump won't agree to the DNA test that Jean Carroll wants because of . . .

It was not me claiming that he is a zillionaire it was Forbes magazine who had estimated his wealth at $3 billion. I was not around to read up on the story yesterday so just beginning to follow it but wasn't the gist of the story that he paid virtually nothing in taxes for many years? I bet his tax attorneys now are a bit nervous because there are going to be a number of very experienced tax professionals scrutinizing every aspect of these tax returns.
But, you bought that sh!t hook, line, and sinker! You have brought up several times how he is a successful businessman when only a little bit of research into that would tell you otherwise. You beat us over the head with that crap. Care to actually vote now for a non-conman?
Can you admit now that you have been fooled by this charlatan? He's dangerous. He's already talking about a third term. How does that not just scare the sh!t out of you? That's not Constitutional. You claim to be a Republican. Do not Republicans value the Constitution? Come on now Sally, no name calling of you here. Step up to the plate. If this isn't enough for you to abandon Trump, what the hell is?

Yep, just one more thing Biff got wrong. He was giddy that Durham was going to take down the Democrats. So stupid.

That stuff is supposed to be absolutely private. Whoever gave it to the NYT should go to jail.
Yes, I detest Trump and want him gone. That doesn't excuse this.
It could all be perfectly legal. If Melania is the one who gave the returns to NYT then there is no problem as long as they are returns she jointly signed.
I don't think Melania wants to continue as first lady so it very well could be her.
That would shock me. I think it's more likely to be Allen Weisselberg or a Trump tax attorney or preparer that we don't know.
Weisselberg has been granted immunity in Trump's affairs.
Maybe he can release this without facing charges.

Sure. Why don’t you go investigate that for the benefit of the American people? Such an honorable task will make you feel better

But I suspect this is yet another "small thing" you'll overlook for the sake of avoiding communism and liberal judges right? There is not a drop of shame on the right. He's a criminal, period.
You guys have been saying that he has been committing tax fraud for years. Well so far there is no discussion of any tax fraud. NONE. As I have said many times, Donald Trump DOES NOT prepare his tax returns. He is not smart enough to. Very highly paid tax attorneys have done his tax returns during this time and they are NOT going to risk their million-dollar salaries and partnerships in the best tax firms in NYC (and even risk jail time and licenses!) just to save someone - who you keep clamoring is broke! - to save Trump a few dollars.
Let me stress this because it is highly important - the highly paid tax attorneys who prepare his tax returns are not going to risk their livelihoods to save some peasant (as you have been calling him) some money. Oh, another thing - it appears he IS under audit after all!
Sally, you showed a glimmer of hope earlier with saying this was perhaps worse than you thought. Go with that. Don't slide back into fantasy land here defending Trump.
Highly paid people do a lot of taxes for wealthy people, and they are not under investigation or suspicion of tax fraud. These people take their marching orders from Trump. He doesn't necessarily hire the best or people with scruples. Michael Cohen? A two-bit lawyer from a horrible law school. Trump hires people who do what he says.
Also, being under audit is no reason not to release your taxes. The IRS has said it's not a problem. He hasn't done it because he knows they show he is a fraud.
Step all the way off the Trump Fantasy Train. Right now you are straddling. He's dangerous. He's compromised. He is a security risk. It is anti-American to continue to back this man.

The IRS does have huge issues with his returns. Did you miss this part?
In 2011, the IRS began an audit reviewing the legitimacy of the refund. Almost a decade later, the case remains unresolved, for unknown reasons, and could ultimately end up in federal court, where it could become a matter of public record.
The IRS is auditing a bogus $72.9 million tax refund. At best, he will need to pay that back with interest. And he apparently doesn't have the money.
At worst, he will go to prison for it.
There were other potential crimes exposed in the tax returns that were outlined by the New York Times. We don't know if the government has been pursuing those crimes or not. But it is flat wrong to say the the IRS has no issue with them. We don't necessarily know.

Again, Trump paid $1 million in taxes in 2016 and $4.2 million in taxes in 2017. The money was rolled forward and is sitting in escrow. That money has not been refunded to Trump.

Yes, they should. I really hope there is significant video of it too. All of those Trump family criminals need to be put behind bars, noting of course that not all of them are criminals. I don't think Melania, Tiffany, and Barron are criminals.
