Remember the lots of Gaza inhabitants were given the opportunity to work in Egypt in the past 15 years but realized the salary and living conditions are even worse in Egypt.

lsrael has pretty much admitted that they did get warnings, but disregarded them. Like Bush2 disregarded warnings of 911.
The core problem is that for political reasons Bibi is more concerned about protecting settlers in the west bank than anything else - so troops were there, not in the South. It was a jewish holiday so all those settlements needed protection. Whoops.
I hope bibi will pay a price for that decision, but he probably won't.

the resources Israel uses to defend settlements could be used for much more productive things and should have been used more to to provide security from an attack from Hamas from Gaza.
