That's great, actually. I mean that someone who really is a pro athlete actually benefitted from it. And someone who seems pretty decent human being if you can tell anything from social media which yeah, i know, you can't really. But doesn't post nonsense, just quietly cracks on is what i mean.
She is and comes from a good family.
No trust fund there, sister works hard as a doctor and she worked full time before she got some support to help train for Tokyo.
I think they have a pretty healthy subscriber base - see a lot of people on strava using it. You only get max 2 weeks free I think (I may be wrong on this). Each person is paying £16 UK or $20USD per month. So they do have an actual product with an actual revenue stream. They must have a huge marketing spend but I suspect their investors will get their returns. It's a straight forward product, that people are willing to pay a recurring fee for.
Amazing what marketing/ paying all those influencers does. I've never used Runna and I've never used Coopah, but it looks like they are exactly the same thing eg its just AI. Presumably you would get pretty much exactly the same thing if you asked Chat GPT to spit you out a plan. Never mind all the ones that are actually free.
One thing I don't understand is now Strava has training plans in it, but they aren't Runna... (but they also point you towards that with their stupid prediction things)
I want to take a moment to applaud Holly Archer today for her real and raw post about influencers. Take a look if you haven’t watched it. Basically calling out the awful content from Mary McCarthy. Has a stress fracture but is out there gunning the bike and the swims. Irresponsible and misleading her followers. She’s toxic for the sport. Thumbs up if you agree. Comment if you disagree.
Its just a trend, gone in 2 weeks or so. Nearly every pro/semipro on instagram is posting about: "When became stress fractures normal?" and all the posts of the, mostly, female runners looks the same ;)

Everyone's favourite run club hero Calum Goddard is dealing with an injury but that doesn't stop him getting a Vo2 max test and after looking at the data, deciding to run his easy runs harder.......great
I cannot understand why so many brands send him things. How is this guy 'influencing' anyone. Who is seeing him using cadence and thinking oh I best buy that or how do brands like lululemon or whoever else see value in sending him free gear? like even if people did think this, his reach is minimal. I'm assuming he is just very well connected in this influencer marketing world?
Good luck to him, but this rates a solid 2/10 for entertainment. Obviously a very good runner, but there's zero banter/personality after the first 10 seconds (of someone else)
CrownMyRun gives the people what they want, nobody really cares what the level is, it's just fun to watch.

Agreed, you need both ideally. Personality & entertainment along with being a top top level runner.
That’s why Jake Ran to Japan is so good. Really entertaining and running sub 2:15 marathons.
likewise Donato. Lots of charisma and his times when compared for his age are world class.
His gf is also an influencer, and he got his big break from being “ProddyC” aka, the producer for one of the biggest UK podcasts (Fellas) that got 300k+ listens/views a week. Probably got some marketing contacts out of that, can then spin it into his own career once he left that.

Reason provided:
Referring to Calum Godards free stuff
He got famous for being an background annoyance on the Fellas podcast where he would routinely butt in and say the most annoying and incorrect things about stuff he had no idea about.
I imagine he rubbed shoulders with all these great content creators and has thought to himself that he can do that but hasn't realised that they usually all produce fantastic and engaging content and not just 15 minutes of themselves on a limebike trying to waffle their way though explaining what a v02 max test is whilst getting it unbelievably incorrect despite having it explained to them like a baby 30 minutes earlier.
Prick Bester is on Godard’s latest podcast if anyone was looking for a twat fest
Just listened to this and hate to say it…. I don’t think Bester comes across too bad on it apart from a creepy laugh which pops up on a couple of occasions.
The host has nauseatingly high levels of sycophancy throughout however.
Never one to miss a trick, Bester is now jumping on the moon-boot bandwagon. If you ignore his nonsensical, boring drivel, Philly commented on his post and is effectively calling him out. This feels like a watershed moment amongst the shoe-tubers and it will be interesting to see where the chips lie
After liking Holly's post, my social media is now embroiled in "fracture gate" as well. I didn't know who Mary McCarthy was more than a week ago but now I have so many reels detailing her cross-training and calling out other influencers associated with Runna.
As much as I love watching the runfluencer drama and perusing this thread to laugh at it all, I am now reminded just how over my head it can get. There are just too many people involved to keep it all straight! It also doesn't help that everyone has the same few names. Like seriously, how many different Bens are mentioned on this thread? One thing I'll give to Kofuzi and Truett Hanes is at least I know who they are and can easily distinguish posts about them on this thread. I need to stick to my lane and not branch out into this wider world of runfluencers because it just becomes garbled gibberish about people I have no clue about. As much as I'd love to know about iRace26.2 calling out Cole_has_the_runs on the latest edition of the Besties Who Run podcast... I just can't do it I'm afraid
Hilariously true. I also was mystified when I read this comment on blogsnark about fracture-gate:
"It’s a weird dynamic as well - Phily and Holly have done training camps before (also with Anya), Anya and Mary are friends (but Anya is training a lot with Mary’s ex), Anya and Holly were really close for awhile but don’t seem to hang out as much anymore, so anything that gets said has the potential to be taken as a personal attack not a general comment."
It is hilarious that all the British women of social media are attacking each other and/or in bed together. And a lot of them are injured for doing dumb things. But it is A LOT to try to comprehend that comment.
In a world of being kind, I think when a spade needs calling a spade, it’s worth it’s weight in gold.
An observation I’ve made purely from seeing this in person over the past few years at various events is that she is incredibly up her own arse, stinks of entitlement as if she’s carrying the entire running creator / professional running industry on her shoulders. Let’s be real, she was on a creator / pro crossover deal with On because she isn’t good enough to be on a solely professional contract with On.
Someone should ask her why she cheated on her long term ex with a (engaged at the time) now married man in the form of British steeplechaser Jermaine Coleman, that’ll drive the views.

A quick look on his Instagram and since the turn of the year he's posted:
Ad for an Invisalign brand with gifted treatment Ad for a rental flat development in Walthamstow Video about a VO2 max test that was presumably gifted (can't be bothered to watch his video to confirm) Ad for Lululemon/Runna Ad for Five Guys Ad for Lloyds bank "Brand trip" with Holland and Barrett Ad for Jet2
I've also seen him all over Cadence adverts that I'm being spammed with. Beyond that his gf has also posted her own ads for Cadence, Nike, Lucky Saint and Violife.
Do you have to respect the grift at this point? It's mad. Add on that all the entries to major marathons between them that they were gifted last year and this. Hope I'm not sounding jealous, I'm more morbidly fascinated tbh

We are very close to watching a video of Nick Bester saying "nothing beats a Jet2 holiday" before shooting off to Kenya
