Trump's strategy is to win the same states he won last time. He can afford to lose two of the smaller states and still hang on. I think they's given up on Michigan.
I believe this election will be more binary than 2016.
In 2016, Hillary got 66 million votes to Trump's 63 million, but he obviously won almost all of the close states to grab 100% of each of their electoral votes.
Also, Gary Johnson and Jill Stein had a combined 6 million votes (4.5 M for Johnson, 1.5 M for Stein).
I think all of the liberal Jill Stein voters are going with Biden.
And Gary Johnson voters are never Trumpers and Lincoln Project people. I believe they're voting for Biden this time. At least these are all up for grabs.
Trump is not gaining anyone.
Now, I do think there will be more white trash voting than last time which does favor him, but in what states and how many?
Lets's look at some 2016 results:
PA: Trump beat Hillary by 44,292 votes. Johnson and Stein had a combined 196,656 votes.
MI: Trump beat Hillary by 10,704 votes. Johnson and Stein had a combined 223,599 votes.
WI: Trump beat Hillary by 22,748 votes. Johnson and Stein had a combined 137,746 votes.
FL: Trump beat Hillary by 112,911 votes. Johnson and Stein had a combined 271,442 votes.
AZ: Trump beat Hillary by 91,234 votes. Johnson and Stein had a combined 140,672 votes.
NC: Trump beat Hillary by 173,315 votes. Johnson and Stein had a combined 142,231 votes plus there were 47,386 write-in votes (most people did not for for Trump in NC).
So, not only did Trump win the overall election with only 46% of the popular vote, but he had less than 50% of the vote in several individual states that he won.
I believe this was the Hillary affect. A lot of liberals and Democrats were not gung-ho on Hillary and threw a vote for Stein as a protest vote.
Many conservatives and moderates couldn't stand Trump or Hillary and voted for Johnson.
Anyone think Trump has won those people over in the last four years?
Trump and Hillary only got 94% of the total vote.
I think it will be closer to 99% this time between Trump and Biden. Symbolic counter votes aren't happening.
Who's gaining the difference in the swing states?
