I don´t think Jakob can win anything at the moment.
Didn't have the sharpness to compete with the 1500m guys, but would certainly had a better chance in 28:55 race where he has never lost to all the guys who medalled.
You are never better than your last race.
Past performances are only history.
Unless there is an explanation for his poor performance yesterday in the 1500m heat he will not be able to contend for a medal in the 5000m (if he should qualify for the final).
His performance yesterday is by far the worst performance in the 1500m/ mile in his career. I hope he FULLY will overcome his injury problems because otherwise is doesn´t look good.
Thought Grant's Stanford mind had evaluated the cost benefit scenario of getting a cup of water to extra distance run and deemed it unsatisfactory. Seems not
Yeah, did anyone see if he ever got water, that seemed risky to me.
I did not see Fisher get water (but I was watching on Peacock, so I suppose he could have gotten it during commercials or when they covered field events).
He just hasn’t looked as sharp in the latter part of this year as he did in the first half. Maybe he peaked too soon and/or maybe that hamstring issue in the summer has been a factor. But as some others have said, he looked like he ran out of gas at the end of the 10.
I would love to see Fisher medal in the 5K, but I don’t expect that to happen.
The ARROGANT, PRIDEFUL, EGOISTIC NOAH LYLES SHOULDN'T HAVE won any medal!!!
Anyway, Bronze suits him. He gonna be washed, wiped and dusted again in the 200M
🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
LOL. Noah’s bronze actually shows what a great championship performer he is. He’s been battling injury this year, so for him to come back and win bronze with his fastest time of the year is impressive.
Lyles also demonstrated class in defeat by congratulating the Jamaicans who beat him. You, on the other hand…
Yeah Noah is a class act, the arrogance is a show for the cameras: he went right up to Thompson at Paris and paid his respects when he thought he lost - no pouting, just class.
It looks like there has been a deliberate allowance of 0.025 seconds, making the reaction times slower than at previous championships.
So far there have been zero reaction times between 0.100 and 0.134 seconds. That's unheard of. Seiko are clearly fiddling the measurements to try to avoid false starts.
Jimmy Gressier winning gold is what happens when you run slower than the women’s 10000m WR. Absolutely gutless effort by the guys with the fastest 10k PBs - I know it’s hot, but heat doesn’t make you 2 1/2 minutes slower over 10k. Conditions were similar to Tokyo 2021 where they At least ran in the 27:40s.
I have thought Grant a great tactician up until USA’s since then…terrible choices.
At USA’s, he let Nico have hope & got bested in a sprint in the 10.
Didn’t control the 5 & let Nico do the work at the end while Hocker outkicked him.
It was confirmed in Zürich, when he “practiced closing” & got blasted by Gressier. & played out again here in this race.
In the past, he didn’t have the tools. He does now & he doesn’t use his head, his heart or his gut.
This was his race to lose & he did.
Can he do something different in the 5?
His tactics have always been questionable. We nitpick because he has run the times and has been a contender for the last few major finals so it is worthwhile to analyze what could have been done differently. Maybe he didn’t take water and if he didn’t that’s a mistake? Did the podium take water? Maybe. But every individual is different and if it was as hot and humid as has been said then a small percentile of dehydration affects performance. Ultimately, it was slow and the conditions conditioned the race. At that point, anything can happen with a fast last three laps and a 400m kick. So, beyond making sure he hydrated, nothing more for Grant to do in that final.

That's not what I'm discussing. My point is that his strength has always been his strength, not necessarily his speed. When the guys who he dominated over 10k XC both medal, seems like he could have done so as well just off of base training.

Devon Allen was robbed. Probably a legit reaction, and was DQed in his home World Championships while in the best form of his life.

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden will be the exception to what we'll see as the Grand Slam Slump. Hard races in April/May, DLs, and a world championship in Mid-September is just too long of a season.
Grant looked like he didn't have the last gear. Jess Hull almost had to walk to the line in the DL final. Kenny had to settle for 4th after looking like a world beater in May. Yared couldn't get it done to make the starting line. The Big 3 in the 400 hurdles is looking more like a Big 2 with Dos Santos on the outside looking in. Arop hasn't been able to figure out how to get in the top 3 mix. I love all these athletes, and I was definitely happy to watch GST when it was happening, but it's hard to not see the trend.
The verdict is still out on Cole, Josh, and Sydney. Syd's competition may be equally cooked by early races, and her talent level is just on another level. And Cole/Josh may yet benefit from the Koech fall and snag a medal I wouldn't write them off yet, but I think Syd might be the only one wearing gold when it's all done.
I hope if GST comes back, or something similar, it learns a lesson from this. I think athletes would be better off with meets that draw big competition in North America that compete with the DL. Plenty of US-based athletes put up duds after being jetlagged upon arrival in Europe. Get enough incentive to draw big fields, but do it in the lead up to USAs.
As a US fan, the big excitement of GST weas the reality of meets i could actually attend with top-tier talent. Let's get some big summer meets in the US. That's all we need.

Where the heck have you been? He's had an achilles injury. From what I've seen over 50 years 100 out of 100 achilles injuries are a serious problem. He was trying to make do with what was dealt to him. You can't fake it though an achilles injury, especially at this level.
