Its actually crazy that people manage to call these improvement typical... Woodbridge was probably not his best and 15:06 for the win at ROUGHRIDER is crazy. D2 is looking stacked
Looking at the numbers, his Rough Rider performance wasn't 'crazy', it was speed rated at 184, which looks in line with his Woodbridge SR of 179, so not an off-race. If fact, many of the top runners have posted SRs more than 5 points higher than their Woodbridge time. He's a top Cal runner, but 6 Cal runners have gone 190+, and that doesn't include Noonan. He still has a chance at a state title though, because outside of Zavaleta (and Daillak is D1?}, I think D1 is not top heavy on individuals this year.
>>The speed ratings for Rough Rider were dropped 2 points (6 seconds) from Clovis, because of the ideal weather.<<
Clovis had ideal weather too.
Clovis had better than usual weather. It also was speed rated 1 point less than last year's Clovis and state meet. From what what others had said on this board (who I assume were there), the weather at Rough Rider was even better.
Daillak is D2 now- would say he is in contention for a state title, but not likely considering Kushen, Caldwell, and Stefanopolous are also in D2. I made a hypothetical all state rankings for divisions based on current 5k prs but also previous track prs- also threw in some wildcards in there (which may be off)
1c. Evan Noonan (Dana Hills)(explanation: Bros been out for pretty much the whole season- we don’t even know if he will be in peak shape to defend his title, arguably the fastest on this list tho)
4. Liam Miller (South Torrance)- 15:12 (Clovis)
5. Andres Lomeli (Kimball)- 15:10 (Flame invite); 14:24 (Woodbridge)
6. Oliver Hunter (Dana Hills)- 15:19 (Clovis)
7. Andrew Quast (West Torrance)- 15:31 (Roughrider)
8. Josiah Bowman (Sage Creek) (explanation: Taking away all the guys who moved up or down a division, current times, and new guys in D3- Bowman is one left from last year remaining onwards- 15:32)
10. Kaden Nelson (Ponderosa)- 15:41 (Roughrider) (explanation: kinda the only dude I can find rn to fill the top 10)
D4
1. Broen Holman (Sonora)- 14:41 (Kim Duyst)
2. Eli Fitchen-Young (Santa Cruz) (explanation: this is a literal no brainer)
3a. Christian Yoder (Oaks Christian)- 15:19 (Clovis)
3b. Cooper McNee (Oaks Christian) (explanation: idk what happened to him at Clovis, but is usually always up with Yoder)
5. Callum McBride (Albany)- 15:31 (Clovis)
6a. Auge Martin (St. Francis)- 15:32 (Clovis)
6b. Max Douglass (Corona Del Mar)- 15:32 (could be higher since he did run a 15:19 last season, but recent performances have been eh)
8. Taye Newman (Jserra)- 15:34 (Clovis)
9. Logan Letulle (Mira Monte)- 15:34 (Roughrider)
10. Bradley Arrey (Jserra)- 15:37 (Bob Firman) (Same thing as I said about Douglass, he’s also been sick recently)
D5
1a. Landon Pretre (Menlo)- 14:51 (Clovis)
1b. Eyan Turk (Woodcrest Christian)
1c. Ben Bouie (Crystal Springs Upland)
(I’m leaning more towards Pretre, but wouldn’t be surprised if Turk or Bouie won as well)
4. Olly O Connor (Viewpoint)- 15:14 (Clovis)
5. Ryan Fitzpatrick (Nueva)- 15:26 (Clovis)
6. Will Hauser (Menlo)- 15:27 (Clovis)
7. Theo Udelson Nee (Wildwood)- 15:28 (Clovis)
8. Henry Hauser (Menlo)- 15:33 (Clovis)
9. Tarik Baker (Crystal Springs Upland) (no explanation need)
10. Jared Saal (Menlo) (Explanation: part of that top 5 Menlo squad that went sub 15 at Woodbridge. Should be higher considering he did beat H. Hauser (I think), but was no where to be seen at Clovis)

Here comes the s**t storm that is about to ensue.
Your looking too much into times. The best metrics we have are from Woodbridge and Clovis. Whoever placed best in those races should be higher. Whoever avoids competition or somehow had a 'bad race' in a real race(not really though) should be lower.
It’s possible he isn’t in the best shape, but in the Roughrider interview Tarik and Ben claimed that they were holding back in order to save their energy for the races that really matter- 15:44 & 15:45 is holding back for them. So it’s possible they’re in solid shape and could get into peak shape once CCS and State comes around.

They did the same thing last year - won their race in 15:30ish and then dropped to 15:04 at the state meet.
Personally, I don't see the harm in going all-out a few times during the season, but they obviously know what they are doing over at CSU so I can't say anything.
Are we not going to say anything about how Ben and Hunter said in the interview that they were only pacing the first two miles and then went hard last mile.
Heat sheets for the 3200m meet at Campo are already posted. Cook, Bouie, Baker, and Sagiraju are all entered. Also the fastest heat is scheduled for just before 9pm when temperatures are forecast to dip below 60.
California has a strong tradition in cross-country, and many teams are likely contenders for NXN (Nike Cross Nationals) in 2024. In Northern California, you might want to keep an eye on schools like Davis High School and Menlo School, as they have consistently performed well in past seasons.
