Ben Is Running claiming he's just dealing with a little niggle in today's video
He's cracked the code though, completely change your philosophy <3 weeks before a marathon, whilst pushing through another stress fracture.
Spent the first 5 minutes doing an ad too. How quickly do we reckon the Shokz are in the bin/on ebay after the sponsorship deal ends post-Berlin?
Ben if you're reading this - lactic acid doesn't exist in human physiology. You absolutely torpedo any subsequent words that come out of your mouth whilst trying to look smart when you say lactic acid.
It's time to catch up with our favorite running YouTubers!
Kofuzi and the Believe in the Run Crew are still recovering from their Olympics Trip brought to you by Asics! Whether they got their money's worth for the hotel, all the free food, the free Olympic tickets, and the free shoes they handed out is an open question. Kofuzi's travel vlog on such an epic trip only received 32,000 views! But now a month later they're all saying the new Superblast is the greatest thing since sliced bread. A coincidence, surely.
Phily Bowden, after milking 200,000 views off her video saying she was "no longer a pro runner," signed a contract with On (to those of us paying attention to the shoes she was wearing in her not a pro anymore video, this shouldn't be a surprise). On is apparently paying her partially as a runner and partially as a content creator. This is the new hybrid sponsorship model I've felt is likely for some time. Hopefully it crowds out influencers like Matt Choi!
Speaking of Matt Choi, he's still posting shirtless photos of himself on Instagram.
Meanwhile the Greatest of All Time, Still the Original Running YouTuber is chasing FKTs with his brother and celebrating birthdays with his family.
Allie Ostrander is having a rough season on the trails after a great track season. I hope she runs a road mile or two in the Fall, but he sponsor probably wouldn't like that.
Spencer Brown, aka the Athlete Special, burned up the Boulder Park Run circuit then took a trip to Cape Code and ran a pretty solid Falmouth Road Race. He says a half marathon is next.
Ben Parkes dropped 700 quid on all the products influencers tell us to by and says we should avoid most of them. He calls out the discount codes and commission checks in the video. But then says he really isn't going after influencers money. Then calls out PureSport for scripted marketing. It's hilarious.
Ben is Running has a marathon and all sorts of activation coming up and is fighting through a back injury. He apparently also went outside of the NHS to pay for MRIs to tell him he didn't have a stress fracture. He does this because he feels if he can't run he doesn't have an income stream. Kofuzi rarely runs races anymore. He usually just goes and travel vlogs and it seems to be working out for him. Maybe Ben can pivot if he's injured. Hope he gets better.
And that's all the time we have this week for running influencers!

You're not being fair to the guy.
Pretty sure he had/has two bulging discs, not a stress fracture.
And "lactic acid", while technically incorrect, is used so often by almost everyone in running, he can be forgiven for the mistake.

When Ben F went down this path a very wise person said to me "What sort of person running at this level gives up a stable job to do this?", and added that they'd spotted a high conversion rate of running Youtubers to mental health meltdowns.
Noone I know who has any coaching cred refers to 'lactic acid' so I agree with 'spinal' on this. This caused some personal viewing trauma though when 2 swimming legends (Foster and Adlington) kept referring to it in BBC swim coverage. I assume they were doing it to make easier sense to the general viewer though

FOD Runner - DNF'd a workout this past week because he passed some roadkill and started crying. This may go down in the history books as the most ridiculous excuse to drop out of a workout. Won a local 10K in 33:31 which was 150m short, this compounded by his Frampton 10K 33:47 which has been classified as 'not the actual distance' by UK Athletics. Giveaway should have been that his GPS had him under 3:00/k twice in the middle of the race on flat sections.
Ben Is Running - hiding his training from followers, but is definitely running, and now just released a video of it. Still doing uphill treadmill sessions* (4:30/k) but cant run 9K pain free at the moment on the flat. Still doing Berlin because he tied up 30% of his annual income in a Hotel ad?! What's amazing is he has all the best advice in the world from podcast co-host Callum Elson (thedistanceproject) but continuously ignores him. Completing Berlin Marathon later this month will surely ruin him physically. A sensible person would pause the running, pivot the videos to either different content or (like what Callum did when he got injured) do videos on other athletes OR just get an f-ing job doing uber-eats or something for a month or two to keep money coming in. Instead he wants to ruin his body further with 2 marathons in the next 3months.
Nick Bester - speaking of someone set to get ruined at Berlin, Bester released his 'London Big Half' video featuring him bonking from 13K/8M, and has since this week jumped straight back into overtraining
Cole Running - like many youtubers has learnt a little bit of new training philosophy and has now done a video panning his entire prior running approach. He's a good kid, but shows his immaturity/naïvety too often.
Matt Fox/Sweat Elite - is trying 100M weeks for the first time ever, 5 weeks out, whilst also doing all-out hill sprints and believes this will take him to the promised land of <2:20. Also has complained of cramping on every single SLR he's done in Chicago so far. Obv a great sign.
Welsh Runner - ran 32:15ish in a recent 10K where he slowed considerably from <31 pace, and is staying true to his weird habit of hiding 95% of his training from fans, thus tanking his Youtube channel. Has decided to go from his previous Marathon block of 110k/week to 160k/week moving forward, so this will surely only end one way.
Elliot Giles - utilising clickbait by putting a massive 1:41.11 next to a picture of him as a recent thumbnail, despite the fact it wasn't him that ran that time, just someone in his race. ridiculous
Gwen Jorgensen - posted a video about 'whats next for me' but honestly I cba to watch anymore, all her videos are incredibly dry.
Clayton Young - Paris series continues, amusing seeing him and Mantz run around Saint Moritz in full body heat-suits, getting weird looks from locals. Next video should be the race itself, dragging this out a little now but good quality nonetheless.
Tinman Elite - still squeaking out the bare minimum with a 7min vid of a workout. That's only 16x videos this year -1x which is a reupload of a podcast, -2x that were COROS ads, -1x which was B-Roll of a local race, -1x which was a B-roll good luck to their athletes at Nationals = 11x videos, the majority of which are under 9mins. So much for a team so focused on their brand.

I subscribed to Giles soon after he started uploading and really enjoyed his early videos on his training, especially how he detailed his low mileage/cross-training heavy schedule. I haven't watched any of his recent videos because of the clickbait titles and thumbnails. Honestly feel like his content really dropped off once he started racing because it was then just travel vlog stuff to all these different races and then analysis of his races (which I usually didn't agree with). It's cool that he made it to the Olympics but honestly the soyfaced, open mouth thumbnails with his Nike gear or him running next to crossed out McDonalds make me feel a little insulted as a viewer. Like who are those thumbnails drawing in?!?!

The Superblast fuϲks. It's a long run monster and I owe my current marathon block to it.
But anyone buying it for daily miles is a sucker who would be better off getting something else. It's being over hyped outside it's wheelhouse.

I’m not following many of these Running YouTubers. Occasionally will watch TAS, AllieO, and rarely SJD. There’s way too much unoriginal content on YouTube. Less time watching YouTube is recommended for good mental health. 95% of YouTubers will Jump The Shark after a short time investing all their time and effort trying to make content meant to make them money.

interestingly your drop-off in interest in his videos may have coincided with when his channel changed to being edited by Philly Bowden's boyfriend....

And floberg is continuing to burn himself out with a ridiculous training block. But don't worry guys, he released a video today saying that it doesn't matter!
On this week's podcast the Believe in the Run crew seemed to suttlely shout out this thread when they described Thomas hurting his back by missing the bottom step on a flight of stairs as " Thomas trials and tribulations." Meghan and maybe Robbie are running a 12 miles tomorrow.
