I read a sample workout that he(Bekele) and the other Ethiopian athletes do, and the workout on Sunday consisted of doing a 3 hour run in the forest at 5:20/mile at 7000-8000ft. altitude. That means he's running a marathon in ~ 2:20:00, and then running at that same pace for another 40 minutes. That is freakin' amazing, if it is true. Then later in the day he runs easy for 1 hour. Does Bekele really do this workout?? If this is true, he's also going to completely shatter the marathon world record. I wouldn't be surprised if he breaks 2 hours. He'll probably end up running under 26:10 for the 10,000m(he's only 23), because he won't peak at running that distance for probably another 3-5 years.

I don't know about that 3 hour run, but there is an amazing workout at altitude the Ethiopians perform occassionally. The workout is an 8km run at altitude at 13:30 5km pace. The easily yields a sub 22 minute 8km at altitude.

The Ethiopian is seriously considering coming to the US Grand Prix event to run either the mile or 3000m...some factors in Ethiopia are trying to be worked out to enable his participation.

I will admit one thing I was definitely wrong about Kenenisa and his tactics. Hicham El Guerrouj is ONE of the best 1500m runner who have ever lived and I didn't think Bekele would take a chance on trying to outkick him in the Olympics. I thought he would pick up his feet and put them down as fast as he could and blaze the 5000m with everything he had. Hicham "killer kicker" Guerrouj don't play that! I was wrong once and I was wrong again the next year at the World Championships.
Kenenisa "kick with me" Bekele can win a Championship 5000m but not if he execute the same tactics he did in his last two Championship 5000m, especially with Hicham El Guerrouj and now Bernard Lagat in the 5000m mix.

I think that post about Bekele "reconsidering" his decision to retire from cross country if "the people" ask him to is a bunch of boo sheet (pardon my French). And I'd be willing to bet Shaheen is thinking the same thing.
