A few weeks ago I started have sharp pains in my lower groin, underneath, where the testicles meet the leg - near the rectum. The pain has now spread slightly down the inside of my legs. The area behind my knees is tender. Also, I have had shooting pains in both legs and feet. Very weird and quite scary. Occasional slight pain in my lower abs, in front, but it's mainly underneath.

I had an ultrasound yesterday after two trips to my family practitioner. He thought I had an inguinal hernia, even though the pain really isn't "in front" and there is no bulge. NO inguinal hernia, according to the radiologist. I'm going to a sports med doctor tomorrow.

The only thing that changed in my workout routine leading up this was that I ramped up my sit-up routine quite a bit...

Does anyone have ideas? I would really, really appreciate any input. Thanks!

Awesome to hear! I am at 7 1/2 weeks post op from Dr. Meyers' bilateral pelvic floor repair. I don't feel awesome yet, but I think I have some strength in my abdomen that I had lost pre-surgery with my injury. My range of motion is back and I am very agile on tramp and tumbling basics again (I'm a gymnast).... This has definitely been an up and down recovery, but as of right now things are looking pretty good....

Today is my first real test I think... I'm going to be doing alot of my harder tumbling (although onto a low impact surface) so fingers crossed that goes well....

I'm not going to read through all 51 pages on this but my pain is on the inside of my thighs near where they connect to my pelvis and a pain at left and right side of my groin.

The pain comes and goes usually when i overdue it with whatever i'm doing it won't hurt, but it'll come and go either way.

I play football and have been trying to train for it, but this has been affecting me for many months now and my doctors haven't a clue.

Suggestions ?

be careful, Dr. Cattey told me the same thing. You have to realize that by training he probably means jogging 5 to 10 minutes for a while. So your probably better to let it heal longer then two weeks.

Andrew M, sounds like possible sports hernias on both sides. Go to someone who specializes in your area.

My plan was 15 miles first week running that was 2 weeks after surgery. Then 5 miles a week till I got to 100 a week. By doing the math I'd be at 100 miles April 1st. No workouts for 10 miles starting once a week a tempo run. Then every 4 to 5 weeks add a workout a week till I'm at 4 workouts a week. Maybe ahead of myself alittle but positive outlook is the only way to go! Plus stretching and lots of core stuff.

Thank you for the replies especially Johnny. Again I have to apologize for my poor English as im from Sweden!

I am so terrible scarred of the surgery because my pain and problems are located like 2 mm from my Penis! Now my pain is so severe that I have problem just managing my job witch I have to because It is my own company and I have no one to cover for me and I have two children to support. So I need to get this fixt but I don’t know how!

Do you guys think that my hernia can have spread down to my perineum because I haven’t got it properly diagnosed and that I have kept on working with my heavy job? I have also gain 35 pounds and it is only fat! Can that affects the spreading of the hernia?

If you start to have a hernia it usully spreds due to collagen-problems and that is what im worried about I don’t want this hernia to spread to my perineum region!

I don’t train so much now… Before this shit I run 100 and 200meter and my PB was 10.78 in 100 which in Sweden is very good so the sports docs really want to help me but

no doctor that I have visit has yet been able to diagnose my condition (I have the same experience as most of you guys: turn your head and cough) until recently when a private doctor said that he thought it was gilmore groin.

I just want this shit to be fixed! I am always depressed and if it wasn’t for my wife and children I wouldn’t wanna go up from the bed in the mornings I cant remember how it was before the pain

So I ask again!

1.Is there any guy who have had this operation that have had experience problem with the penis or the testis? Wasn’t you worried before you went under the knife that something could happen?

2.And do you think that this condition can spread to the perineum structures due to collagen-defects? So you have to place mesh in your perineum area and by doing that hurt your genitalia.

a number of us including myself have had the pains in the perineum and genitals. dr muschaweck in germany and i'll bet gilmore says the same, is that the genital branch of the genitofemoral nerve gets very irritated by the injury.

i have had the pelvic floor worked on manually and the conclusion of the therapist(s) was an entrapped iiloinguinal nerve and probably other nerves, in scar tissue. apparently that can happen in such injuries that have tearing of muscle and fascia. men can get entrapments of nerves, muscle imbalances, and othropedic-based/postural dysfunctions, and trigger points that can all cause such pains (so can women).

dr muschaweck is your go-to person. she knows all about those nerves and collegen disorders. if you can see gilmore as well, see him too just to get a full evaluation from two different people.

if you have had the injury/pains for a long time, you might have been causing lots of scar tissue to form over and protect the area as it continues to microtear.

you should email dr muschaweck and ask her your questions, then it would be wise to go to her office in munich and see her.

then take it from there.

Are you sure that it is only nervproblems? Where were your tear located? Was it very low as it is for me? My tear is maybe 2mm from were my penis come out of the body…

The reason why I ask so much is that if it is normal for this condition to have a tear that near the penis and that everyone here that have had the surgery including you Johnny have had a tear there and haven’t had any sexual problem would that be a great relief!

Here in Sweden we have free healthcare and that include everything, it only cost 130 dollar per year so if I find a good surgeon in Sweden who are familiar with this problem then I want to do it here. Its bi-lateral so it would cost far to much for me and family to do it abroad maybe if we haven’t had so high taxes here in Sweden I could have afford it! But then a again we wouldn’t had free healthcare… But that is a completely different question!!

Another thing that makes me not wanna go the surgeon in Germany(she seems very good! Don’t get me wrong!) is that see doesn’t use mesh in her repairs witch I have heard is far more likely do hold strong for a lifetime,so if you have a big “weak area” then I think that you should cover it all up with mesh because the tissue you have near the weak area may also be a little bit weak!

i had tears in the posterior inguinal canal, and probably the external oblique aponeurosis, but we will never know for sure with the oblique because my insurance would not approve of an mri to show it!

the ilioinguinal nerve shoots right down to the top of the scrotum and near the root of the penis. perhaps that is why it hurts there. this nerve gets ppainful often with hernias. dr um said that that nerve was/is still irritated on me, entrapped in scar tissue along its path.

she does not use mesh unless she thinks it is necessary, but uses it when needed. she has invented a surgery where mesh is not needed. note that dr meyers in philly, the "other big dog" of this sugery also doesn't use mesh.

no sexual problems due to the surgery that i know of.

keep in mind that i am not a doctor so anything i am suggested is based on educated guess and experience as a patient. i wouldn't want to steer you in a wrong direction. but dr um has seen it all in that area of the body and you would greatly benefit from a visit with her.

i should have mentioned that other nerves near the ilioinguinal (like the iliohypogastric nerve) can also be entrapped in scar tissue. there are lots of nerve endings from other nerves down there, and sometimes when one is entrapped or damaged, there can be crossover pain signals. for example, the genitals can hurt when either ilio- nerve is entrapped or irritated.

- an MRI revealed that my sartorius and two abdominal muscles have suffered avulsion fractures. The MRI results were interpreted by the Penn State Sports Medicine.

-I have since moved back to Colorado and my new doctor refuses to look at my MRI. He says he believes those muscles are still attached so he will just perform normal sports hernia repair - the "mesh-implant" thing.

QUESTION - What if he is wrong? What if he opens me up to insert the mesh and finds out that those muscles need to be re-attached to my pelvis instead? Does anyone know how this works? I'm scared to even speculate at this point!

From what I've heard from Dr. Meyers and my own guesses (I am by no means an expert of course) the scar tissue formed from the mesh insert will tighten up the pelvic floor and make it appear to feel better. Since the pelvic attachment isn't actually repaired, it will likely catch up with you in ? a couple of years? I've heard different things.... So yes, you do want to make sure you get the right surgery, definitely do your research and find out the pros and cons of each.

I'd recommend Dr. Meyers in philly. I'm almost 9 weeks post op and have strength back that I had lost pre-surgery (my left rectus was detached from my pelvic floor), having occasional aggravation/ soreness in the area, but all and all seem to be recovering alright. I am at 90% with my gymnastics, only leaving out my most difficult tricks/ combinations at this point....

As another alum of Meyers "class of early 07" (May) I am now just over seven months out. I had difficulties about 8 weeks out and required a followup visit which resulted in a couple of cortisone injections. Basically from that day on (the cortisone worked virtually instantly on what Meyers said was just inflammation) I made extremely rapid improvement and assuming the cortisone has worn off by now I am at 100%, playing hockey and conditioning 4-5x/week. I sometimes/rarely have an ever so slight 'feeling' where I had the surgery but honestly it doesn't even rise to the word pain and Meyers said I might always feel something very slight. I am grateful for this thread and all the information I got from it and if anyone wants to pick my limited brain they are welcome.
