Haha this is there new UCLA leadership team. It’s actually right on par with UC beliefs
Regarding the UCLA position. It is not a great job and will be tough to get it going. I believe you would need someone that is great with the community and general outside area. A strong "salesman" is really what is needed, someone who is high energy and can truly be a sounding board for the sport. I believe it should not be a distance coach but a track coach who can hire a very talented energetic distance coach and give them support. The strength of the program and the history of the program necessitate a high energy individual. People not in the coaching profession don't understand how challenging a job it really is.
The Ucla AD is a “crackhead”? Not a knucklehead, not a bone head, not a meat head, or even a hammerhead? Interesting you went straight to street drugs.
Anybody thinking the Ucla glory days of the ‘80s and ‘90s were lost due to staffing changes is high.
Ucla used to be a SPORTS school, because they had very low tuition, easy acceptance standards, and a weight room full of vitamins (a.k.a. burritos). Now it’s an ACADEMIC school. (Shouted for those in the back.) You have a better chance of getting into Berkeley than Ucla. Unlike private academic schools, public schools can’t bend the rules on admission standards or scholarshipping. This is why public academic schools suck at sports. If you have s 3.8 you can get an academic scholarship at other schools… but at Ucla most students need a 3.8 just to get in. Ucla has drastically changed over the past 3 decades, which negatively affects their sports, but that’s not ”fixed” by staffing changes.
However it is still true that Ucla should be doing much better than it is. It’s ranked #1 for state schools, and is the most recognized university name in the world. Yes it would help to have more $$$ for the program, especially to hire seasoned coaches. But we all know athletes will say no thank you to a scholarship offer when they’d rather get into Ucla on a coveted admit or books. The current coaching staff lacked some basic knowledge with recruiting strategies and meet management. The head coach was in over his head. Ucla is a hard place to be a coach.
"and is the most recognized university name in the world." Hilarious

Uh....UCLA has more people apply than any other university.

Except for the fact that she has been gone for a number of weeks. Confirmed with a member of the team. She may still be under contract and getting paid, but she has not been involved with the team for quite some time.
Tops in applications, as I said.

Thanks.
Brand recognition means the logo has gotten around the world since it started to be spread to China around 1980. UCLA has also been made into its own clothing brand. People who don’t know about Ucla the college still can recognize Ucla the logo. You’d be surprised how much this helps with recruiting in Europe. Although Europeans will go to all kinds of backwater schools, not knowing what they’re like, they have all heard of Ucla.
What an absolute joke. They not only want to pay less then a construction worker with no degree or debt from that degree. They also want you to do another $40k job on top of it. These universities really do play us for fools.

Seattle University? After yet another last place finish in the Western Athletic Conference championship meet?

Hopefully no one is willing to apply for it, let alone take it, but somebody always does.
Westerner you started well then proved you actually are guessing. UCLA never was easy to get into, that is just a lie. It has always been a very desirable academic institution. The struggle is the changed landscape.
The struggle is with the scholarship limitations that did not exist in the past. It is still a sports school.
Track can be revived quickly. Faster than most think. It deserves the proper attention and support internally and externally. It really is that simple, but complicated all the same. Navigating this is the challenge. Who is hired will dictate a lot
