Our justice system is built on innocent until proven guilty.
But with the #metoo movement.. it became clear that if several people who don't know each other allege the same thing about you, it is very likely you are guilty.
The same thing happened with Lance. Floyd Landis, Tyler Hamilton, etc - all these people said Lance doped, and Lance denied it. "Show me the positive test" he would say - just Rupp defenders now say.
Rupp had the perfect training - (plucked up by one of the world's best at a young age.) He had a perfect career. Even his surgery went perfect. Perfect Rehab. And he won a perfect race, with his perfect form and perfect body type.
It's a boring story. Walmsley was a good runner in college, but not at Al Sal or Rupp's level. (29 minute 10K I think). But he got a DUI, got depressed, his life fell apart. Running helped him. He decided to get into ultras and go for the W in each race. First two attempts at WS he made mistakes. 3rd attempt he won. 4th attempt he won. He is imperfect, but has overcome some challenges, which is why he makes for a better story.
I remember on JRE when Joe asked Malcolm Gladwell who his favourite runner was. He said Rupp. Joe asked why. Gladwell said it's because Rupp has been the best at reaching his potential. Well that's nice, but I have yet to see Malcolm write a story about Rupp.
