Didn't Droddy run a 61' half or something? What's he done in the marathon?

I would say some of them will go 62, you gotta remember this course is net downhill so it's not legit like Houston. Even in worse shape most of the guys should be able to run close to their best times (wont count).
Did you even bother to look at the course elevation? The first 9.5 miles are uphill with a downhill that finishes at the same elevation at the start (quarter mile way).
What a terrible comparison. Droddy never ran more than 90 miles a week before his debut. The two runners couldn’t be more different in their training background. Everything about Walmsley indicates he will be stronger in the full.
I was stoked to see this time but the course was absolutely short - all strava results showing ~12.9.

But Droddy has been lower mileage. He’s only recently run 100 mpw and was lower when he ran his half PR.

Droddy also specializes in ultra events?

He ran a 2:11:42 at Chicago this past fall, which in the scope of US marathoners isn't half bad. And, as everyone else has already pointed out, Walmsley should have far, far better endurance
Walmsley is a 100 mile specialist. No doubt he is a better marathon runner than he is a half marathon runner. Also, the hills of Atlanta are to his obvious advantage
60:xx predictions lololololol

How do you figure?
Power hiking in a canyon isn’t running 4:50 pace up a moderate grade.

Letsrun has to ban those characters in names. Messes everything up.

Certainly at least a dark horse contender.
Along with the other 10 no name Americans who broke 62 this morning...
What a sad state US marathoning is in ?
Brian Shrader 13:47 last 5k! Impressive.
It’s RnR, so yes definitely possible. GPS error can be correlated, so not a definitive sign that it was short.

Can we talk for a second about how Jim Walmsley ran 1:02:15 after running 151 miles last week.
And 158 the week before.
And 176 the week before that.
And 175 the week before that.
And 151 the week before that.
impressive in its own right, but it's not a given that a bigger taper will yield a much better result. but with a couple years of HM training + a taper, you'd have to imagine he could drop some significant time and post a really nice HM
American men regularly now run sub 13 5k and sun 27 10k but marathons stuck at 2:07. What gives?
