Actually, look at the race again, he almost took out himself. And a round earlier he was pushed a bit by Chelimo. But to call him dirty is to stretch it too far. But though, I agree, he should have been disqualified at the 27th.

I am not fan of his style and am concerned about what the boisterousness of the Ingebrigtsen clan (and others) represents for the once humble athletic culture in Norway. Nevertheless, he ran a very gutsy race and fought for every inch on the home stretch even as the prospect of a medal fell away. That was athletic spirit.

Jakob's bold and often unwise maneuvers, combined with his (in this context) towering physic, makes him a bull in a China shop sometimes. Gjert is conscious of this, and I imagine that Jakob will refine his methods as time goes on. A disqualification in the preliminary heats would have been legitimate. In a way, however, i am happy it was reversed, as a disqualification would have robbed us of a chanse to see his gutsy-ness in this final.

I also respect Henrik's decision to run to the best of his abilities despite the major gap, and his ability to relish that chance with a smile. Filip should have jogged it in for a finisher medal in spite of his cramp. He confirmed that he was not injured.

The DQ in the Semi Final was not egregious and didn't give him any advantage so a good call on NOT disqualifying him.

Either you've never been in a tight/fast kicking race and or you just don't know what you're talking about. Bumping, pushing and "running up" on other runners is common (look at the shins of many 1500, 5K, and 10K runners after their races- a lot of blood running down the legs). It's part of racing just as long as no obstruction or interference occurs that overtly determines the outcome of the race.

That being said, Jakob's race strategy was terrible at the end. Being a great 1500m runner with exceptional speed why is he trying to "outrun" these guys so far out? Jump them going into the 200 and put the hammer down. They'd never pass him on the turn and would be cooked on the home stretch.

Just my 2 cents.
