Rabbitruns, many of us have NOT forgotten 9/11, particularly those of us who live quite close to the WTC site, which is why we oppose a war with Iraq that will do NOTHING to curb terrorism but only create more hatred of the U.S. in the region and thus encurage more terrorist acts.

Obviously none of you are fans, so as a fan I would like to voice my opinion, since that seems to be the trend here. If anyone has heard the song "Goodbye Earl," then they may understand the Chicks humor. In the lyrics booklet from the album Fly, the Chicks claim, "The Dixie Chicks do not advocate premeditated murder, but love getting even." Like many Americans I have talked to in the last couple of months, they are a little embarrassed to be Americans right now, as am I. So, I believe that the Chicks were just using their sense of humor to make their audience laugh, they really did not intend to have their remarks blown out of proportion like they have.

Rumsfeld and the rest of Reagan's Republic Guard showed no concern about such things when they gave Hussein the materials to make his bio/chem weapons while at the same time selling arms to Iran, pitting the two countries against each other in a war that took millions of lives. (And to add insult to injury, the U.S.S. Vincenes shot down an Iranian civilian airliner in 1988, killing 290 innocent civilians. Oops. I doubt that Americans would have been as forgiving as the Iranians have been.)

. . . that the U.S. has earned the enmity of the rest of the world by unilaterally nullifying multilateral agreements, adopting protectionist trade policies -- that more often than not lose in the WTO court -- while insisting that it's all for free trade, and generally acting as if it can do what it damn well pleases and the rest of the world can suck on a rock. And the idea that they're all just jealous of our Levis and hamburgers is chauvinistic BS. Many of these countries have standards of living that are at least comparable to that of the U.S., a fact rarely reported here in the magic kingdom.

Really, I couldn't give two shits about what the Dixie Chicks say. Let the right wing Christian conservatives have a hemorrage over it and puff up their chests and make themselves feel like they have the moral high ground squarely established. In my personal opinion, yes, entertainers sometimes make me want to puke with their know-it-all "I'll use my platform for something positive" attitude. On the other hand, any rational and enlightened person would take this in stride and recognize that it is perfectly legitimate, and not necessarily ignorant, to dispute our government's position on this war issue. Let them say what they want and let it go. And yes - keep enjoying their f***ing music even if you disagree with them!
