Not even the best all-time in her own sport. Doesn’t yet own the most majors, never won a grand slam, long way behind most tourney wins. Read about heather mackay and wonder about how a woman can not only dominate a sport but can take on men as well. Karsten Braasch beat both sisters back to back 1998.
Court's record is dated before the open era, which is somewhat comparable to the dead ball era in baseball. Serena plays fewer tournaments now, after all she is older and is a mother, so she'll probably never reach the all-time number (not that it matters). Enlighten yourself on how hard it is to win the career grand slam, especially with the amount of people playing pro tennis now. And lastly, obviously she lost to the 200th (?) guy in tennis. News flash, the fastest woman in the mile won't beat a lot of NCAA milers.
Wasn’t comparing Williams with Court when talking about tournaments. Longevity has to be part of any GOAT conversation. And how tough was the opposition she faced at the time. For example, Lleyton Hewitt was number one for a long time with zero consistent competition. I seem to remember at that time that a young Federer was Nalbandian’s puppy.
