Great race. That is some high quality team that Ethiopia will be sending if all three of those guys run it. Amazing that Rupp ran four seconds faster than any, but with 13:31/13:17-18, these guys showed that they can run faster. I'd love to see a set up 10000m at Brussels at the end of the season with Rhonex and Kamworor along with these three and see how close to the world record they could get. As for Wanders, he is starting to get a lot closer on the track to his half marathon performances, and here, it seems he could have run faster if there was someone running in the vicinity of 27:10. He is not there yet for sub 27, this being a perfect chance to do it, but he has made great strides on the track toward that. The world record in the 1980s was only 27:13.
In Stockholm it was said the weather was bad and Hagos' 27:01 was considered worth a faster time. Today's race justifies that. Given that even with a good time he was still crashed by Rhonex, how fast would Rhonex have run in this race?
Great point. 26:3x?

The weather in northern Europe has been cooling over the last coupla days without being bad - if that reaches down to the Netherlands tonight, and someone pushes the pace from the bat, this amazing large field of talents might push each other to within the neighbourhood of the world record.
At the very least we should get to see a record number of men in one single race breaking 27 minutes.
Twenty top guys whom are all trying to peak for this race to even make the team - if just four or five of them has succeeded in that peaking, someone takes them out fast, and the weather plays along, and they have to duke it out all the way to the last lap - this could be REALLY fast.
This is not how these races play out though. They do not end up being conductive to running close to world record times. Remember they are trying to get selected for the WC. It is like our Olympic Trials. The winner will likely not break 26:40 no matter the weather. They will likely hit halfway in 13:30 ish and somebody will come back in 13:15 or so for a 26:45 win. We shall see.
Kudos to this pre-race post. Any stock tips?

Hengelo isn't the Ethiopian Trials. It is a meet that the Ethiopians have chosen to select their 10,000 team from.
Understand?
That's what I thought.
BUT the title of the thread is 2019 Ethiopian 10,000 Trials....
Hence the question.

Thanks for the breakdown, but women's field is loaded as well, you should include it. I mean:
Letesenbet Gidey: 8:20/14:23
Tsehay Gemechu: 30:15
Netsanet Gudeta: 1:05:45
Zeineba Yimer: 1:05:46
Dera Dida: 2:21/Cross WC silver this year
Degitu Azimeraw: 1:06:07
Senbere Teferi: 14:23/1:05:45
etc
PS: Stretti's source is from here:
https://www.atletiek.nu/wedstrijd/atleten/32128/Results of the 10k Bangalore road race could be a pointer here, second to sixth were: Gidey, Teferi, Gudeta, Dida, and Gemechu.
This was close to the finishing order

Ummmmm, why are the Ethiopian national championships in The Netherlands.
Because Ethiopia is a piece of crap place.
They do not have to have the trials in the capital city at altitude. There are places in Ethiopia that are not at altitude. This is similar to how Kenya was mad about the diamond league getting rid of the 10k. It was taking money away from the kenyan athletes. East Africa has so much talent they could have their own track circuit and run 10ks at all the meets, but that would require a non corrupt federation and planning commission. It is easier for them to just take advantage of the Europeans and Americans.
Henglo is just a small stadium in a small town, a country in East Africa could build something similar easily.

Kejelcha has run 12:46 and 59:17. He is capable of 26:3x for 10k, no question.

Yes but remember that Mo Farah would have run 12:35 and 26:15 but he only ran to win. If he tried he would have multiple world records but Salazar didn't want him to go for records.
If you want to see a better quality video with some commentating bysomeone tied to the NOP click on the link on the skull in upper left corner to watch recorded "live feed" of entire 10k. Mobile only. YOu cant play an instagram live video on desktop for some reason.

Team building + Season planing + Contract negotiating + Other factors.
Right now the global season/circuit is in Europe. These guys are already over there anyway. So are their agents. The Ethiopian federation has more power over their runners and their agents than what the American federation has (top three doesn't automatically go to Worlds according to any fixed rule, just like the Kenyans they often select one or two on old merits). From such a standpoint it makes sense to gather everyone once a year in a place. Hengelo has a great rep as one of the world best stadiums for running fast AND a community for training. They could gather them at home, but that would be like having the New England Patriots and The Golden State Warriors having a joint camp in New York hoping no single local journalist, WAG, selfier och twitterer tried to distract the athletes.

Ummmmmm, avoiding altitude. Ever run a race at 6000 feet. I have. Not fun, not conducive to good times.

Strongly disagree that it's inherently "more interesting" to watch people run faster times. I like honest clean races and get no joy out of watching obvious frauds. What we saw today was a bunch of 27:45 guys, they just cheated to run faster.
Well, we have a difference of opinion. You have an ethical claim which I can appreciate, but I bet you don’t apply it objectively to all athletes or sport. Especially judging the rest of your comment, which is pure horse turds.
But I don’t claim to know who the “obvious frauds” are by looking at them and not having any evidence like you do (seriously dude?! How do you even rationalize such a subjective call in your own brain with no facts or evidence?) What if you found out Gebhriwet was clean and Ben True was dirty?! I bet you your mortgage that you have equal evidence about both of them where you sit behind your computer screen.
The most exciting tour de frances were with Armstrong and I still watch that Floyd landis comeback day. Watching Bekele crank out 61 second laps alone in Hengelo for his 5,000m WR is awesome. Probably EPO, but amazing to watch and understand he strung together 24 200’s at 30.x pace for 12 and a half minutes. Go to the track and run a few at 30.x and tell me how you feel. It’s cool to see what’s possible, humans are always pushing. The new Nike 4% are a total cheat but look at how amazing Kipchoge is.
Who do you root for? The people in 9th and 10th place?! You don’t even know their story either but your going to say you do by looking at them?!
Enjoy your hypocritical morality. I guess we all have to go on living by our own moral code, huh?
