whenever there is a "first black to [ ] " or "first woman to [ ]" or "first gay latino to [ ] " the media will not stop talking about it.
did you know kamala harris is the first female and black AND Indian VP?!
That woman is the first nba assistant coach thats female!
Eileen Gu is the first asian woman to win a gold medal in skiing!
it goes on and on and on.
this is likely literally the first time its "first white male to [ ]" and people freak out about it and say hes overrated why are we talking about this. Let us white people enjoy this moment, I NEVER get to hear about white males breaking down the glass ceiling.
Jackie Robinson, Howard Drew, Hattie McDaneil, Deford Bailey, Eddie Tolan, Doug Williams, Willie Thrower, Isaac Murphy, George "Little Chocolate" Dixon, Jack Johnson, a Google search you will read....first African American to....
Google Christophe LeMaitre, you wil read how he was the first caucasian sub10.00.
I am not saying whites would be as good as black sprinters overall, but if otherwise sane white people were more comfortable going berserk now and then, instead of just being improved, but tame joggers, you would see more good white sprinters. Boling is an outlier because of running culture, not skin color.
Enjoy what? I don't recall if I posted on this thread. It seems like a thread I would have added my comment. No one is on team U.S. now except 10000m runners, race walkers and Marathoners. How about we see who makes the team. White U.S. athletes were on U.S. relays up to some time in 1960's so no first time anything. I have no idea why potential U.S. White sprinters stop sprinting. Let's wait. By the end of summer we will know.
Sure. There is no question as to Boling's talent and potential.
But Boling still receives disproportionate attention relative to what he has actually done. Plenty of college athletes have come and gone with similar times and talent without a fraction of the hype. If anyone else was running 9.98/19.92 (there are many), you probably wouldn't give it a whole lot of notice. He's an upperclassman now, not some upstart HS phenom anymore, and the bar for what he needs to perform to contend on the world stage continues to be raised.
For one, he's got a kid a few years younger than him who has just become the 4th fastest men of all time, who still manages to get less attention. Hell, you hardly hear John Fahnbulleh mentioned AT ALL these days and they are the same age and neck and neck, with Fahnbulleh even outperforming Boling as an underclassman.
If Boling can make the Finals at USATF Champs, it will be an achievement considering this historic depth. He sits at 5th on the US lists currently (coincidentally on the world list as well- DEPTH!) He is peaking while pros are just getting started. People continuously underestimate how hard to it can be for star collegians to maintain form after NCAAs. Not to say that he can't be in the mix- many collegians have managed to pull it off- but it is difficult. He's had a long season already.
I wish him the best and am excited to see what he can do as he continues to develop.
Come on man what is he doing any different than so many other sprinters? The only thing different is he's a white guy.
If I took every single SEC schools fantasy 4x1 teams, there would only be one white cat out there, yep, Boling at Georgia. That is hard to believe but true.
But we're still talking about Boling because he is improving and doing everything right.

Yeah, sure, OK.
Matt Boiling. Yep. I bought a box of Wheaties with him on it the other day. I heard the new Nike Boiling 1.0s are coming out soon. Cant wait to get those. I was gonna buy a Matt Boiling jersey the other day, but there were only seven different colors. Didnt have the one I liked.
I assume you mean via a relay. Otherwise there are plenty of reasons.... Bromell, Coleman, Bracy, Williams, Kerley, Knighton, Lyles, Bednarek. I'd say those are pretty good reasons why he can't runs his way onto a team in the 100 or 200.
