They may have had no idea how far they ran and didn't realize they had to run two loops.
Simply, she is an idiot. Her explanation makes no sense, and is very poorly worded. She likely has no idea what a timing chip is and she ignores the evidence regarding the pace change. She flys right into name calling and tries to claim she is helping promote the event. No one would know who she is but for whom she married. Just another self important, overly entitled brat, like her husband.
She's not in the race results, so it looks like she has been disqualified. She can't claim to have run the race, the only question is whether she cut the course intentionally or by accident.
Starting with mile 3, she would have seen mile markers 3, 8, 4, 9, 5, 10, 6, 11 in that order (the actual race course is in the Deadspin article). Is it possible that, through a combination of inexperience, stupidity and maybe fatigue-induced delirium, she was simply mistaken about how far she had run and really thought she was at mile 11 when she was really only at mile 6.4? Seems like a stretch, but it might be the best way for her to save some face here.
When she got to about mile 7.4, she should have turned right to do another loop, but at that point she would have been getting lapped by the faster runners who were completing their second loop and then turning left towards the finish. Did she just follow those faster runners out of sheer confusion? Again, seems like a stretch, especially since the race likely had volunteers, or at least signs, at that point telling people who had only done one lap that they had to go right and do the loop again.
The race was really expensive ($130) for a smallish half marathon. The course should have been well marked and/staffed with people to prevent people from going off course or accidentally not completing the entire course.

Most people would be willing to accept even a half-baked explanation if it was accompanied by an admission that she didn't actually finish the race. Just tell us you were trying to DNF, but made a beginner's mistake and passed through the chute and recorded a time when you were actually just trying to make it back to the finish after bailing. Admit that you let your ego get in the way and pretended your time was legit on social media because your friends and family were all waiting to hear from you and you didn't want to disappoint them. Apologize for your poor choice. Chalk it up to being brand new to running events and not really knowing how to handle the situation.

I think it is maybe possible that she didn't originally intentionally cut the course. But, that is highly unlikely.
I don't for a second think that her doubling down now means she is too dumb to still realize that she cut the course.
I do think her doubling down could mean that she is too dumb to realize that her split times make it literally impossible for her to not have cut the course.
But even more likely is that she will just continue to lie and wait for everyone to worry about something else.

After reading the Deadspin article, I'm actually inclined to believe that these two are so dumb that they had no clue that they cut the course and had no idea what their splits mean. I think they actually believe they did the whole half marathon. Not kidding at all. They want to believe the idea that they ran a sub-2 half without training. And now they are doubling down because they are so narcissistic that they can't ever admit weakness or fault.
Might be time for rojo to do the 100 grand " prove it" offer.
