Who's the best inner city cross country team?

I mean Southwest finished 4th in 6AA in 2013. Not 5th

Minneapolis Southwest boys beat Minneapolis Washburn in the first sections race since 2013, and had two 8th graders in their top 5. One of the 8th graders ran a 16:26 5k at sections, led the team, and qualified for state as an individual.

What the heck are you talking about Riverside for? They competed against only four schools. Not sure they have a team anymore. Wisconsin Lutheran is the best inner city team in the state. We have an All-American coach and three or four guys who have run around 4:10. Plus a 1:50 school record and the 7:39 state record. No one else is close.

LOL that Wisconsin Lutheran is considered inner city school. A private school that recruits within a 50 mile radius of Milwaukee.

Riverside is old news and it was not considered an inner city school back in the day.

Try Milwaukee King as solid inner city school for the Milwaukee area.

In my era, Cretin-Durham Hall, Saint Paul, MN was a solid city XC. The male team went to state numerous times.

They also won state in 1975. They haven’t been doing so well lately though.

The largest schools will be in AAA for XC.

Highland Park will be in AA, so now in the future seasons they will have a better chance to win state, and even have their boys and girls teams win the state at the same time.

You are going have to get special permission from a clown on page one to be able to include Highland Park High School. If clown on page one had an issue with me including Cretin-D, Highland Park High School sitting on golf course ... . I'm happy to read Highland Park H.S. is doing well. I have ties to that school and ties to the neighborhood.

In the 70's Salem High, Brockton High, Chelsea High, Malden High, and Gloucester High.

Minneapolis Southwest boys XC team went from 8th in the section in 2020 to second in the state in 2021. I honestly think they could have won it if Sam Scott and Ruben Margolis finished where they should have. In 2020 Sam Scott didn’t race the section meet.

Loyola is about 3 miles from downtown LA. Compton is a good 20 miles away. Why do you ask about Compton? Is your definition of inner city any place that has black people?

I am certainly with you on North Central Spokane. I don't think you can count Lewis and Clark, because while the school itself is right on the edge of a bad area of town, the majority of it's enrollment area is lower and mid South Hill, and quite a bit of well-to-do neighborhoods. N.C. on the other-hand is right near an area known as "felony flats". Still a little hard to call it "inner city" when they are just a couple of miles away from a sprawling state park for runs, and a portion of their enrollment area encompassing areas like Five Mile.

Cross country takes discipline and consistent hard work.

I know this horse has been beaten to death in this thread, but can we all agree that "inner city" is just a synonym for "poor?" Southwest is located in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the whole state. I'll bet the median household income of the kids on those teams is well north of $100,000. Kudos to them for their success, but I would not call that an "inner city" team. And even if you were to call that school as a whole "inner city," the demographic of the XC team is probably indistinguishable from Edina. Same with Washburn and even South to a lesser extent.

Some of the top kids on the Tully Runners speed rankings from last year are from major cities, it seems, Dallas, Houston, and a few others. What do you all know about their schools?

If "inner city" is synonymous with "poor," then rural poor areas would be considered "inner city." Does that make sense to you? Is Appalachia "inner city"?

Yes, based on the terms I defined in my post "inner city" is a substitute for the word "poor." So if we also agree that appalachia=poor, then by the transitive property if inner city = poor = appalachia, then inner city = appalachia. QED.

I'm pretty sure the spirit of wejo's OP was, "What schools with a predominantly poor student population have had prominent success in XC?" So yeah, tell us about these hardscrabble hillbilly kids chasing distance glory - I would truly love to hear it!
