He's not alone. Kawauchi and Linden weren't just the fastest Monday, they were the toughest. My best days were in the Steve Jones and Rob DeCastella, Ingrid K. & Rosa Mota era, when runners did what they are supposed to do: run. None of this 'I have a stress reaction' crap. They had stress FRACTURES, and I know many runners who even ran on those. Some people would call runners from my era 'stupid', but they clearly had what most runners today, particularly elites, don't have: guts.
It's nice that these Africans can run a 2:04 marathon, but those performances, while fast, are the product of fast courses, pacers, and coordinated efforts of a host of professional staff for each elite who make sure that everything is perfect. Monday wasn't perfect and it became pitifully obvious just how weak today's 'elite' runners really are.
This is just a really stupid comment. Running through stress fractures??? What good can come from that? Being stupid has nothing to do with being tough! ffs some people ....
It worked for Snell...and Malmo.

Complex situation. I had 3 science finals and a paper that week and it just so happened that during the week before, mice traps were placed in our rooms because mice were getting in our dorms at San Rafael Hall through the ivy. I was essentially up 3 straight nights with studying and inherent fright about the possibility of mice in the room
If you want to consider chocolate covered espresso beans and coca cola as substance abuse, go ahead.
I did not need Adderall, Uptime, No-doz and Red Bull or Nitro had not been invented yet.
By using me in an example and being wrong in your assessment of my metabolism or stamina, you have also shown how people can be erroneous about Rupp.
One more point in Rupp's favor.

The fact that he tried a triple involving a marathon shows an incredible amount of arrogance.
Have you ever tried to stay awake three consecutive days without sleeping unassisted by substance? You probably haven't, in fact you wouldn't even consider an attempt, and if you did, yo would struggle most likely unsuccessfully.
Take the same scenario: 3 days no sleep but you can use Aderol. Not only would the aderol assist you physically, but it would give you the confidence to attempt something so absurd without thinking twice
This is a broad step in logic for you so I'll be patient I only ask that you make an effort.
1 Rupp is capable, how is he capable?
2 your story, in spite of being really interesting, is really unbelievable. You had 3 tests and you Essentially stayed up 3 nights while 3 mice fought over who got to nibble off the bottom 3rd of your labia. Like I said interesting. But kind of reaching.
My point is simple and trite and unromantic, if it's to good to be true it probably is. Rupp is not a super athlete, in fact he's not even that talented

Stop it. Get some help.

Ethos, Pathos,Logos.
If you are going to be credible as someone who is more than just a Rupp-Naysayer, then you need to give me a Logos argument.
By bifurcation of my true story, you are drifting dangerously into the pathos that kills your own argument.
In other words, you are parsing my argument about Rupp, but you have given me nothing in the way of solid evidence that my responses are illogical or that your refutation is, in fact, logical.
You have also given no evidence of anyone 's usage of several to validate your claim.
As a result of the fallacies in your premises, I have to determine that your argument is neither cohesive nor congruent nor valid.
This earns another point for Rupp.
Care to actually try next time?
Small correction re: autocorrect
Several= adderall

They are trained to hate palefaces, even though they themselves are of the same group. If this statement were coming from any Kenyan or anyone but a paleface these same freaks would be fretting over the runner's condition, begging to help him out lol. Not a one is smart enough to ask who taught them to think and act this way.

As I've said numerous times on these boards, nothing Rupp does will please the haters.
If we wins a race, the haters will claim the field wasn't deep and/or the time was "slow"
If he doesn't win, well, he can't run fast and/or against competition
He finishes Boston on a horrific day weather-wise..feeling like crap/hypothermic and death slogs it to the finish.. places 10th and he gets killed on the boards
He drops out of Boston(of which all elites do) and he's not mentally tough and gets killed on the boards
Hell, I firmly believe that if Rupp won London this year, against this field AND set the WR, the haters would STILL have something bad to say.
Just stop.
+1 Great Post.
Yes, a wonderful post. The haters are still seething over Rupp having two Olympic medals.

Noel,
From the looks of your name you are Slavic, your people have a long history of oppressive and dogmatic governments, we know who taught you how to think
He doesn't owe you or anyone else a statement justifying his dropping out, just as you don't owe me one should you drop out of a race. Get a life.

Of course Galen owes me no statement. I don’t care about Galen Rupp. As somebody who is significantly smarter than you or Galen, neither one of you interests me. I simply onserve what a socially inept and immature little boy that Galen still is after all these years. Galen cheats because he does not like to lose. I might add that Alberto has indicated that he thinks it is reasonable to cheat if you want to be one of the best runners in the world. Alberto said he thought it was necessary. Alberto has admitted it. I do not entirely blame him, but Alberto appears to,be a sociopath and Galen appears to be his experiment gone awry.
Another reason to show no mercy to cheating Alberto and cheating Galen is that Alberto himself accused the top runners in the world of cheating back before he was coaching any of them. Alberto essentially said that the top runners were cheating and that to be one of them you had to cheat. Alberto coached Mary Slaney when she was busted for high testosterone and then later lied about being her coach at that time. Alberto has no moral compass and he has made Galen into somebody who finds it doubly painful to be cheating and then fail. I do feel sorry for Galen, and to a lesser extent, Alberto. They know what they have done.

He probably didn’t mention Yuki or Des by name because he doesn’t have a personal relationship with either. They’re just competitors to him. Honestly, I think to mention them by name would suggest a closeness that almost certainly isn’t actually there.
Not to mention just days before Desi had slammed a former teammate of Rupp's just for having a historical connection to him.
Yet Ritz congratulated Desi by name and said the win was much-deserved and earned.
I don't have a problem with Rupp's statement, but it's just generic and impersonal. Considering he didn't talk to any media after, if I were his PR person, I would've made that Instagram statement more heartfelt, with an image of himself with his bandit mask on. Saying the conditions were brutal, and even his wardrobe choices did not help. That he wanted to thank all the medical staff and volunteers because it was freaking cold and he was hypothermic, pay homage to Desi and Yuki who have huge hearts and stamina, and to all the runners who did finish, a job well done. And a thanks to the fans for standing out there in the wind and rain. He'll be back!
He seemed pretty cheerful and chatty in interviews before the race. I wonder if he really is a sullen type after he loses, or Al Sal just makes him return back to the incubator.

Sorry to my fans that I couldn’t break 19 minutes at the Run to Fight Serious Illness 5K and Color Run last weekend. The drizzle and temps in the 60’s were pretty brutal to deal with! Truth be told, I was feeling a little tired because I binge watched “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” on Friday night after a pretty taxing half day of work at Fleet Feet. People don’t get how hard it is to be the second assistant keyholder of a chain retail shop. I was supposed to leave at 7:00 after closing the store but some fat woman from a charity marathon training group and a kid needing replacement spikes came in at 6:55 and just blew my whole pre-race prep cycle.
I want to thank the race director for comping my entry but, I think the t-shirt could’ve been nicer and there should be a separate bagel and banana feed for us local elites. Kudos to the brothers in blue that successfully monitored the intersections. Bless you, thin blue line! A big thanks to the crew at Taco Bell that made me a Gordita Crunch Wrap even though it was not on the breakfast menu. Oh, and congratulations to the winners including that C-level Kenyan grad student and likely doper that wins all of local races plus the age-groupers that I make fun of at the store all day long.
Hahahaha
Rupp was a brain doping device before the race while reading a poem that said “I will not drop out if it gets cold.”
It's amazing how little fan support Rupp enjoys despite his considerable accomplishments, even allowing for the fact that no one cares about distance running. To almost everyone I know, he is either hated or unknown. A lot of his haters don't like him because they don't like Salazar and never have, but it doesn't help that he has the charisma of wet cardboard.
Anyone who says "It's his job to run, he's a professional athlete" is being willfully obtuse. This assertion carries an inherent contradiction. To maximize his value as a pro athlete, Rupp should be doing a little more than he does. But to maximize his value as a runner, to Nike, he needs to be kept on PR lockdown.
If he had Meb;s personality he'd be as close to a rock star as it gets in the world of distance running in the U.S. Instead, he reminds everyone of sad 80s stereotypes about guys who run: geeky, awkward in looks and deed, hesitant. It's too bad -- but so is the fact that he runs for an obviously dirty outfit.
