"Ultra", or "ultra runner". It's not that I'm opposed to races above marathon distance, but these terms sound terribly pretentious to me.

Jog/jogging.
usually comes from non runners, but literally makes me cringe. Some dad yelled to his kid "watch out for the jogger" when I was running and I almost stopped and corrected him on the spot

In this scenario, would it be a wiser choice to put forth a full-race effort (even though there are no competitors beside you) or to finish the race at a sub-maximal effort?
I would think the latter, since you would recover quicker and be able to resume hard workout efforts sooner.
If I'm wrong, please tell me why.
Go for it, just don't go around saying you "tempoed the race"... sounds insecure and cliche

Another vote saying this is the most worthwhile post in the thread.
Add me to the list of yay-sayers.
What do you mean ?? He's "ultra" as friggin h-ll!
This is gold, almost spit my coffee over the laptop! Very good:)
Got to admit that tempo still makes me cringe.
Fartlek is stupid in the English speaking world, you arrive at home after a run and you have guests. They say, "Oh been for a run? How far did you go?" Your response is, "well actually I just did a fart..." they just look at you as if you are from Neptune.
WTH is the "Is ............... update?" That really irritates me.
EPO doesn't work on ....... is just bullsh1t, EPO works on everyone and everything, it's like duct tape.
This was very well done and you deserved more props.

"Tactical race"
Every race has tactics. Running fast from the start is a tactic.
Words can have non literal meaning, everyone knows what a "tactical race" is and if you call a face race "tactical" you are being misleading even if it's technically true.
It's called an idiom

You be incorrect my man. Look it up. Show me any legit source that states "K" equals "kilometers.
As for kilograms, in Asian countries they use a simple 'k' to designate kilograms. Not sure about Europe.
I never said that "k" equals kilometers, but that it denounces a value of 1000. 10k would be 10(1000), which equals 10000 metres, which is 10 km. I am not saying that this makes perfect sense, but 10k is much more convenient to say than 10 km.
Reference to "race faces".
I hate it when pros say that they are good or successful because they are "consistent." Not every pro is truly "consistent."
When washed up track boys say that they have now become MARATHON runners. They always retire soon after this ridiculous statement.
BQ
"termonolgy"
"Lets Run"
"LR"
"LRC"
Those are the three I hate the most. They have ruined the sport.
Strava, iPhone, gps watch. Stop effing around with your little gadgets and run!
i hate people who wave their arms around too much or too little

1. Shake out run. Just call it a jog.
2. Training through. Excuse for running a bad race.
3. Mary

5. Saying "60 point" after a repeat. You're a dork.
I hate the word "terminology ". So pretentious.
Please use jargon, lingo, parlance, etc.
Does anyone really say mary to refer to a 'thon? I don't really hear thon used much unless I'm using it on here to annoy people.
I agree. A front runner is not a tactician.
Centro Jr.'s 1500m gold at Rio was produced through front running tactics.
