Nope. You need to be smarter. 2:09 guys do not run 1:06 and 1:03. They cannot if that is all they are.
how do you figure? he runs 62 flat and is maxed out, so 66 is pretty minimal pace for him, then he drops it down to 63, still a minute slower than his max ability....your acting like he dropped a 62 or 61...
no rupp is a 2:09 guy...what will he run next marathon? well if he goes out in 64 i can see him running a 2:08 low...if he goes out 63 or faster he will blow up and run 2:10-11
If he runs Boston next year, stick a fork in Rupp. He might sniff 2:08, then never again.
The ONLY shot Rupp has at running a time that's even a mile back from Dennis is one of next spring's rabbited races. All this talk of the next Olympics and WC the year after is insane. Ya'll don't realize how perfectly the chips fell to find Rupp in bronze last summer, as well as the Chicago winner this time around. Salazar is a good planner, but he can't nail it forever.

You have already conceded a possible low 2:08. You are on the right side of the debate but you will lose credibility if you do not think he can run as fast as 2:07. Will he? Perhaps not. Time is not on his side and he is obviously AFRAID of the marathon.

but you like so many others who dont f*cking read, i have said many times, when rupp was on the sauce and running 3:50 indoor mile, 26:44 and finishing kick in 52-53 he was a potential 2:06 guy....but now he is off the sauce and i dont see him running faster than 2:08 low, i mean maybe if he runs super smooth and evenly paced and gets dragged along he might be able to go 2:07 high...
like i said he is off the suace and equal to meb, and meb was a 2:08-9 guy when he made it count. ritz and hall have more natural talent, imagine what they could have done on the sauce

Rupp is NOT off the sauce. You manifest astounding ignorance. Rupp is getting old.
a guy who runs 1:06/1:03 is clearly not just worth 2:09 in an even-paced race. He is probably a high 2:07/low 2:08 guy. However, Rupp did not just run 1:06 even/1:03 even. He ran that 1:03 primarily through those last 4 miles where he was running low 4:30s, even when he had a substantial gap and for that reason, having that much in the tank at the end of a marathon, he must have been capable of 2:05-6. He also beat guys currently at that level.

Galen is being vastly overrated by the less intelligent here, as fitness is fluid and many of you have little comprehension of this.

For what it's worth, however, as of this date 64 men have run a faster marathon THIS year than Galen Rupp has EVER run (Chicago, 2017).

I don't feel like he is going to do much more honestly. I think the DNF at Boston hurt his image as a racer.
Before, everyone knew that if Rupp was in the race, he was going to contend for the win but now they know he's fallible.
Boston was a reset for Rupp. He now has sub DNF potential for the marathon distance. I personally think he can run better than a DNF in perfect conditions, with dry shoes, on the right course after he recovers from hypothermia, asthma and dropping precious fuel at that water station. He had a rough day. Certainly he can show up in the finishing results with an actual time result on his next attempt.

No doubt. Many of you underestimate Galen. Galen can do a DNF in his sleep, or perhaps technically a DNS. Galen is that good.

Right on, I have actually seen him do that in training. NOP plans for every possible race scenario.
He was doing DNF repeats with a DNS rest...IN TRAINERS! It was sick. It almost made the Flotrack Workout Wednesday.
Checking, but I think Rupp is leading DNF for the year. Has anyone with such an awesome PR dropped out so far this year? I'd ask Yuki Karaoke, but I think he's running a marathon right now, so I don't want to bother him.
2:07:30 -2:08 range. Boston was a survival of the toughest.
Have your buddy Rupp race a sub-2:08 then we'll discuss sub-2:05.
