Using Lefty Wright as a reference, the race is too close to sectionals or conference to send the "A" team.

Call it the "Fastest Loser," a term actually used in track. It'll be funny! Those who know the term will explain it to the ignorant ones, turning offense into education.

Well, if you had read the OP, you would have seen that the state mandates anything with the title "JV" can only be raced by athletes designated "JV" for the entire year.
How do you even have a JV cross country team? The only point is at invitationals, where it makes no sense to have a restriction like that. I temporarily fell out of top 7 once and had to run a JV race, "won" a medal and threw it in the lake. It's good motivation.
We always called it non-quals.

It's honestly not that hard
Lets say the school is Rockdale. Make it the Rockdale Invite or the Rockdale Classic or the Rockdale Open or the Rockdale Meet
Technically it's a meet full of JV runners who in this race will actually be in a varsity position. If you give a name like "Invite" or "Classic" they feel like it's a regular meet and not a leftover JV meet.
This is the best answer. A little surprising it took 5 pages for someone to post it. If the school doesn't work, use the county name or a nearby street. Names like Future Stars are great for 4 years olds. Most teenagers will see right through that and find it embarrassing. And the clueless ones who don't get it shouldn't be encouraged to keep thinking they are a Future Star.
We already have a "real" meet that uses our school name. Will probably use it again, though, as in
___ Emerging Elite
or
___ Developmental Invt.

Yeah, agreed. Why would I want to designate someone as "JV" if they can potentially help the varsity? Why would I even want someone THINKING of him/herself as a "JV runner"? Dumb.
Thanks for all the replies, team!
Back in olden times when I went to HS, it used to be called the "Novice" division. It was for people who had never medaled in another meet.
