Have you considered that there are many immigrants in this sport who are every bit as much of an American as you? "Hey, he's like me - maybe someday..."

Ask any high school or college distance runner who medaled for the US in the 1500 last summer in Rio. Or who medaled in the steeple or the marathon. And then ask them who medaled in the 5000. Exactly.

I agree, rojo. Get rid of the track 5k and 10k, and run an 8k XC on a real course. Half of the 10k guys should be in the marathon and the others should race this new Olympic XC race. Same for the more distance-based 5k guys.
Why the heck are we getting rid of anything? Just add xc, heck put it in the winter olympics, it was originallying removed because if heat concerns anyways.
Sure the Winter Olympic charter says ice and snow events, but I would argue that xc's biggest races are all in the winter and XC often does run in frost, ice, andcertainly some snow. And then make it human rights issue, something along the lines that the Winter Olympics is discriminating against the winter weather sports of African nations and then let the SJWs jump on it.
Realistically when you have events like synchronized diving and half pipe and women's slalom C1 getting in the Olympics I am pretty confident there is a place for both a 5k, 10k and an XC race.
(Women's slalom C1 was literally created by SJWs, there was litterally zero organic demand for this event)

Ask the majority of all High School and College athletes, all sports, and they would identify Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, and Hope Solo. Centro, Murphy, Rupp, Coburn, Jager, and Simpson don't even register
As far as those of us who follow the sport at my school, guys like Paul Chelimo are just as big of an inspiration as Matthew Centrowitz or Galen Rupp to us. It's more that they're representing the US than if they're foreign born.
I'll admit to on more than one occasion pretending to the whole team pretending to be Chelimo, Rupp, True and doing our own commentary imitating the commentary from London, accents and all. We want to emulate those who are fast, and that's not limited to American greats either, Bekele and Mo are huge idols to a lot of us.
Point is guys like Chelimo or Cheserek are just as inspirational for us as natural born Americans, we don't tend to make the distinction.

Probably because they were born in Kenya, and mostly raised in Kenya.
Can you really not see why that would have less influence on a perspective runner than a locally born and raised "Heath type" runner. If your idol once won the same Turkey Trot that you are planning to race in, you, as a young perspective runner, think hey maybe if I win this Turkey trot too I can be on the same trajectory.
If our winning runners, those who are supposed inspire, don't show up to the USA until college with storys being told about them running 10 miles a day to school back in Kenya, from the time they were 4 years old, most perspective middle and high school runners are going to think "we'll I didn't do that, it's to late for me."
The Great RUn channel have a highlights thing up so far, I expect longer tapes will be up in a while

Yes and get rid of all events less than 1 minute, and run a 2.5k XC on a real course, like around the stadium, swimming pool, and back on the track. Everyone less than a mile should be in this race and it would be much more interesting.

Isn't this post title name misleading? Heath did not win this race 3 times. He won the 4k twice I believe, which was not the 8k. Do some fact checking! Callum bossed up but honestly did anyone really think he'd drop that guy? He is a sitter, he was waiting to strike and cal was trying to break a guy who is more fit. An uphill battle on ice.

He had him beat. I reckon Callum eased off slightly with 50m to go you could see it in how surprised he looked to be overtaken & suddenly up although not enough. You can't speed up when you are all out.
Your gut even said he thought he was running for 2bd he was hanging on. Great race though from both runners.

Where is Islamic state? Not heard of that country. You could have said Somalia I suppose. Somalia is not overrun by isis at all. Not sure what you are getting at.
