With the advent of widespread television, sports with more action became more popular to watch... football, hockey, and basketball.
Today, baseball moves way too slow to keep the attention of a modern audience.
I've gotten to the point where I just watch YouTube highlights after the game. 8 minutes and you're done. I don't have the time or patience to watch a full MLB or NFL game anymore.
Pick any of the 2400 MLBs games played each year and they will still be the Olympic 10K final for attendance. 25 laps on the track is boring.

Have you been to a game recently? I paid $16 for a tall Modelo at a Sacramento River Cats game. It used to be a beer and a hot dog cost about the same. The money isn’t a big deal, but as a matter of principle, I’m not paying the price of a 6-pack for just one beer more than once. I had a buddy in college that drank a beer an inning which would cost him about $150 with today’s prices.

Stayed for the whole game and probably watched a total of 5 minutes of the actual playing. The atmosphere was fun and I enjoyed it. Will still go back even though I didn’t pay attention to the game
People are more diligent about how they spend their time and money these days. This is hurting baseball attendance. Covid may have changed things that way for good. People realized they had other priorities with their time. Sure a family or a single guy may want to hit up a game or two within the season but that's enough for them now. To make a weekend out of it, usually comes with cost of a hotel and expensive food plus drinks. Hard for most people to save money if they need entertainment every weekend. The games are always on TV anyways. Can even follow along online if you want. Many options.
You could tell mlb was panicking originally when attendance declined. They juiced up the baseball. Runs and Homer's increased. They banned pitching substances. This year scoring has been as low as ever and they are leaving that be. Perhaps lower scoring works for them now. Who knows. How are the substances not secretly prominent again, is it a coincidence? Maybe they're letting it play out and will reevaluate a strategy in the off-season. Pro sport is entertainment and a business first and foremost. Some of these low budget teams will relocate soon with the attendance issues. Guaranteed. But profit margin is the most relevant stat anyways.

Kind of like when you see young kids at a game. As soon as the food arrives, they get more into eating than watching the game.
I would say from watching most sports that it's not quite the most boring. Cricket is even more boring and American football beats that to the bottom. I have the least respect for those "big" sports. Volleyball is more exciting to watch and more athletic. Then you have Futbol, basketball, tennis and hockey on the top tier. Other more popular and more exciting sports include team handball and water polo. Even good ole rugby is more exciting. Tbh, I watch more cycling events than running. Swimming is more fun to watch than running.

I went to a couple of Washington Nationals games last week. I will say that the energy is a lot duller this year. Its a rebuilding year with the team looking to sell so its to be expected. But when the team was doing well like in 2019 when they won the title and even for parts of 2021, the atmosphere and crowd engagement made the games fun. Even with the slow pace of games.
Simple: don't watch it. Running around a track in a circle can be pretty boring too and considering even a bad MLB game draws more fans that the recent US championships in track did.
If you do not like it or find it boring, then just ignore it.
