Look, Vipam made a good case for RJ based on the information that was publicly available at the time.

Regina was a talented woman who resorted to whatever performance enhancing drug she could use undetected. It is impossible to say what level she would have reached without the drugs as it is impossible to say what Suzy FH would have done on them. In my book, every Jacobs performance, after Stanford, is suspect. Her coaching relationships with Chuck Debus is just the beginning of the saga.

She should not even be considered when you are talking about "best ever" athletes unless you feel the same way about Ben Johnson.

Suzy, though not the best ever....gets more votes from me than a cheating, theiving liar who stole glory from countless runners.

Yes, Jacobs was great, until she had performance-enhancing drug problems. Did she not test positive or run into trouble after that indoor sub 4 WR? A great way to measure an athlete is by how good they do while being clean.

Watch out.......there is an Elva Dryer on the horizon. Barely an honorable mention at the moment but if she stays healthy look out.

Regina has been dirty since 1986 when she popped a 4:03 1,500 out of nowheresville.

Jacobs was not clean since 1986, nor was she ever great. She was a 4:10+ 1500 m runner clean, never better than 5th or 6th in the NCAA outdoor 1500m. You are clueless.

i agree with oldguy that vipam made a bold statement based on the information available at the time. i respect vipam and others who take a stand and voice their opinions, share their knowledge, and post interesting topics and not seek to humiliate. maybe the new topic should be "vipam one of the greatest posters on letsrun".

Regina is a dirty drug cheat. Her medals do not count...we all know she was dirty as hell.

Anyone who runs sub 4 for a 1500m and 4 weeks later can not break 4:45 for a road mile....is obvioulsy a cheat.

Whoever bumped this thread back is the biggest loser on letsrun. The statement was made before Regina was found to be using drugs and back then she had alot of haters and alot of fans. Who cares about what Regina is doing now...I'm sure V-man doesn't so why do you?

RJ was heavily tained WELL before 2/1/2003, as evidenced by all the posts regarding her all-but-confirmed drug use back at that time. Only naive pollyannas with heads buried deep in the sand were defending her at that point. It was only a matter of time before she became a little too reckless and got popped one time too many, it was nothing more than the other shoe hitting the floor when she was finally banned.
