Nike is anti-religious, Christian phobic, and should be boycotted

Manny was fired on account of his religious view. "he publicly broadcasted those views while a rep of nike?". So what? Nike doesn't get to dictate to him his views. Nike doesn't get to punish him for the either, or else they violate his civil rights. Which you have now clearly stood against Civil Rights again and again.

In the current case He IS religious, he stated a religious based statement. Let's not start bringing irrelevant points into it. Religious rights are not based on whether other people are athiests. You're seemingly arguing that the statements themselves would be disciplined even if he were not Catholic therefore it proves it's not religious discrimination. Wrong. The statements WERE based on religious viewpoint, that's an important detail. They fired him because of that angle on the issue.

So, he clearly framed his statements in religious context, and had he framed them some other way isn't relevant.

Glad to answer. This, and the Ten Commandments which is also relevant to this news story you introduced, are each violations of the establishment clause. I'd say both the Ten Commandments and the "Satan statue" are both unconstitutional.

The Manny case is not establishment though. Its the free exercise, and the Civil Rights of 1964 act.

It's impossible to find out if I'm a fundie because I'm not preaching for anyone to believe anything, nor am I siding with any denomination or spiritual belief. I'm calling balls and strikes. All religions have rights. You don't have to concur with their teachings, but they exist, they have rights, and they shouldn't be discriminated on by where they are employed.

Religion is the aspect of the Civil Rights act thats being ignored as yrs pass, almost like it's not there. It has equal footing with discrimination on race, sex or national origin.

You don't have to like a religion, it's positions, or doctrines, to be for protecting those that do believe in it from discrimination by employers. It's really easy to say you agree with rights for those you agree with. The test of a fair society is protecting the rights of others you may not agree with, but who have just as much a right to fair treatment and justice as you do.

Nike should be boycotted...But not because they stood up for millions of humans.

They should be boycotted because they support near-slave labor standards, produce low-quality products, and have a doping regime for their track and field athletes.

He could have talked about the Resurrection, Transubstantiation, free will vs. determinism, his admiration for various popes, saints, etc. and kept his job. And being Catholic does not determine someone's political beliefs. I'm Catholic and I don't really care one way of the other about gay marriage. I know priests who are fine with it even though they can't perform them. If I were a Nike exec I'd have fired him too because I'd have believed having the company associated with those sorts of comments is bad for business, not because I really care what he believes, however he framed the comments.

A contract is, "a written or spoken agreement, especially one concerning employment, sales, or tenancy, that is intended to be enforceable by law." It's really quite simple. Nike valued the image Pacquiao brought to their company more than it valued the millions of dollars they paid him. If you produce pencils and I buy them for a dollar apiece, I value the pencils more than I value my dollar.

In return for Nike's money, Manny was supposed to continue to bring value to the company by not making controversial statements in public. Conversely, if you start producing lower quality pencils, I might not want to pay you a dollar apiece for them; in fact, I might not want them at all.

Pacquiao was released because his career is over. His homophobic comments made it easy for NIKE to end his contract.

And, NIKE is the name of a business. A company name does not have a religion. Go find the person in marketing who made the decision and criticize that person regarding their religious beliefs.

Manny P should've done his homework before signing with Nike. Nike are, and have been, very clear on their position with regard to tolerance and diversity. They've supported marriage equality for a long time. If Manny opposes those viewpoints, he should've found someone else to sign him.

Manny's comments illustrate that his viewpoints are not aligned with those of Nike. Partnerships work well when they're supportive of one another. Manny disrespected Nike's beliefs and they terminated the partnership with him.
