Does anyone else find it curious that in the '70's pretty much every successful runner put in at least 80 miles or more, then in the '80's we have the appearance of the "anomalies": Coe, Padilla, Marsh, Spivey, etc., who reportedly ran in the 40-50 mpw zone. All of a sudden it became "less is more" and British and American running pretty much went down the poophole.
I'm not a high-mileage advocate (at least for my no-talent self: I "overcook" at about 80 no mater what), but for teh majority of elites, it seems that 80+ is the way to go, unless you are an outlier.
