Exactly. And some people don't realize that Fisher was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, not the U.S. Are any of the anti-Verzbicas people going to point that out and call Fisher a non-American? If the Brojos really do promote the non-American factor with Verzbicas, will they do the same with Fisher? I don't think so. Verzbicas is still right up there with Ryun, Lindgren, Pre, etc., as a high school runner. When you can put 4:15 and 4:14 together in a two-mile, you're really something special. I'm hoping Hunter stays healthy because he's showing big signs of being that kind of special, too. Right now he's on par with Fisher, but with a year left in high school it's going to be great watching his senior season. Predictions like this are unsound. There is no accurate way to calculate an evenly-paced ideal performance based on a race with a fast finish. They may not have been able to sustain a mid 8:30s pace through eight laps for myriad reasons. I wish people on these boards would stop taking a result and trying to turn it into an alternate, predicted result.

I didn't see the race, I am assuming Grant was tired based on the time. There are several H.S. athlete who have ran around an 8:43 2-mile, but never won 1 FLNC or come close to a sub-4 mile. Even if you put aside Grant's sub-4 mile, the strength he showed in his XC victories suggest he is capable of going after the 2-mile HSR. Btw, this does not take anything away from Hunter, because a win is a win and whatever is going on with Grant has nothing to do with him.

Ha! You guys are hilarious. Grant was born in Canada, but do you even know how long of his life that he's lived in Michigan? My wife was born in Sweden, lived there for 6 months of her life, yes months. Has been in Michigan now for 34 plus years. She is an American, not a Swede. I don't know Grant personally, but live in Ann Arbor, about 30 minutes south of Grand Blanc. Grant is an American. Don't try to split the atom, it won't work. Grant is an American.

Fernandez would have beaten Fisher at both one and two miles in H.S. The day of the Cali state meet no one in history could have touched him in the deuce.

The FL races were tactically slow, and he won them both on the kick.

He didn't show any strength in either of them, and what was his fastest 2 mile prior to this week?

Did Brannigan sacrifice himself?

He tripped Hunter in the Dream Mile last week and perhaps prevented him from a win. This time around it was common wisdom that the only way Fisher could possibly be beaten was if Brannigan and/or Hunter ran the kick out of him from the beginning. Read the prediction thread if you doubt this.

Brannigan led the first five (!) laps, and then faded into next to last place. He was a huge contribution to Hunter's win. Was this on purpose?

More likely Brannigan just tried to win from the front and played into the hands of Hunter. If he knew that was the best chance against Fisher, then it worked, but just not for him.

Grant Fisher lowered his 2-Mile/3200 meter PR by nearly 8 seconds at the Brooks PR meet (not unexpected considering his ability). He finished the final lap in fast time and ran away from the other runners except Andrew Hunter. I believe his time of 8:43.57 is in the top 15 times for all-time high school outdoor+indoor.

I don't consider that to be "tired". I think Fisher ran a great race and simply got beat by a runner who ran a better race and was better on that particular day.

Could he run faster with different pacing is guessing about something that never happened. I would love to have seen Fisher and Hunter in the race where Alex Ostberg paced Brannigan to his fast 3200 meter time. We will never know if high school Grant Fisher was capable of being pulled along to a faster 2 Mile or 5K time.

In 20-25 years, will the next generation of high school runners consider Grant Fisher to be one of the top all-timers? Without the Prefontaine movies, how would current high school generation rate Steve Prefontaine?

How does the current generation rate Jim Ryun who sits atop many lists in this thread? Google Jim Ryun Dream Mile and watch Marty Liquori beat Ryun a few years after high school. Marty Liquori, a sub-4 minute high school, has not gotten any love in this thread (not saying he should). Link to video:

Actually, if your wife was born in Sweden, of Swedish parents, and not been naturalized... she is Swedish.

The same goes for Grant (Canadian).

None of this takes away from how someone feels about their home, or what they have achieved.

Do you think a 4:26 first 4 laps "ran the kick out of any of them"?

The field was all bunched up most of the way and 7 guys were within 10 meters of each other at 400 to go. If Brannigan was trying something like that he failed and ruined his own race.

You might have had something if 4:03 miler Brannigan had gone out in 5:25 for 5 laps and the winner went 8:35.
